“A serene place in the midst of mountain ranges”
Reviewed 9 March 2012

Iam chandramouli living in bangalore. Myself and my wife stayed in Bob's place in mid of february 2012 as a part of our honeymoon trip. It was a pleasant surprise for us when we reached there. From the outside it wasn't looking that great, but as we passed the main gate, we started liking the place, the ambience of the place was comforting, the interiors, the furnishing and the entire plan of that place. The dining area is simple and some articles u find there are hand crafted. The cottage was built on the slope of a hill side so it has ups and downs. The view outside is something different. I would like to keep gazing at the mountains outside our place. The cottage, every part of it is crafted with a enough attention to details. The wash rooms are clean and dry. I liked the “lounge” area. There were good collection of books( novels by jeffrey archer..) and magazines. I would suggest you to spend sometime in the lounge. The open space outside the “lounge” area gives a amazing view of the mountains. There was absolute silence on the road outside bob's place. The food and welcoming nature of the people who took care of us during our stay, made a lot of difference. The quality of the food was excellent. The menu was simple, but the food was very tasty. Kishanji is a wonderful cook and a welcoming host. We went for long walks after our break fast. “Kishanji and co” served us lunch as late as 3:30 in the afternoon because of our day long walk. Mukteshwar is nearby, it would be a delight if you go by walk and return. we savored our stay in bob's place. Its an ideal place for nature lovers, trekkers and especially for those who wants to rejuvenate themselves. Even if you don't wish to roam around at all during your stay, Bob's place is the place. Regarding some tips, from kathgodm station cab costs 1000 bucks to reach Bob's place, I would suggest you can get a share cab, it will cost you 100 bucks per person. While leaving bob's place, I left my camera charger in their cottage, I informed kishanji and he sent it to me promptly. I found it as a valuable gesture from their part to serve. Near to bob's place, there is a walking trail that goes down hill don't miss it. While walking have a check on the sound around u'll find good number of birds colorful and chirping. Choose the time of your visit. The price for the stay including the food is worth.

Room Tip: There are other cottages inside, but the first photo is towards the boundary wall and it was better.

That is what Bob's Place has been for us over the years. We have been coming back repeatedly to this gem of a place - nowhere else have we experienced the same hospitality, courteousness of the staff, comfort and tasty, home-cooked food. As another reviewer remarked, the staff goes out of their way to prepare dishes you like. The rooms are bright, clean and cheerful, with a view of Trishul and other peaks on clear days. On cold nights rooms are warmed with a wood stove and electric heaters, making them very cosy, and hot water bottles are placed in the beds (with plenty of quilts and blankets), so you really have a comfortable sleep. The bathrooms are clean and have all the usual amenities.

Bob and his wife Punam are very gracious hosts and always make you feel welcome. Bob also seems to be constantly looking for ways to improve the place. When we were there last week we found he had got a new hot plate counter where the cook made eggs, dosas etc. to order.

The location (close to the telephone exchange at Nathuakhan) is very convenient for visiting Ramgarh, Mukteshwar, Sitla (all less than an hour away), as well as Nainital, Bhimtal, Sattal, Naukuchiyatal (roughly 1-1.5 hours). It is also good as a stopover enroute to Binsar or Munsiyari etc.

All in all definitely a place worth coming back to again and again.

This is a small place in a tiny village called Nathuakhan , a little between Ramgarh and Mukteshwar so to say, about 2-3 hours from Nainital. Its a charming little retreat facing the Kumaoni mountains and on clear days you can see some snow-capped peaks sitting on your porch and balcony.

Rooms are quaint, comfortably furnished with good bathrooms and they either have a shared sit-out or a private terrace. There is an English feel to the whole place with trellis, creepers and flowers all around but then Indian-ness is retained in the warm staff and a little stone alcove housing a bunch of Idols ;). There's a nice lounge on the 1st floor with its own deck overlooking the mountains but the Staff seemed reluctant to keep it open for just 1 or 2 families. Only when someone rents the whole place is this place usually used, they said. We felt odd but didn't mind that drinks and snacks were served right outside our rooms and they kept the tasty dinner piping hot for us even though it was past midnight when we finished our little party of sorts. One of the staff even minded the baby while we went up to their Dining cottage.

Food is good, made to order most of the times and Staff goes out of the way to procure you something which they may not have planned for like Country chicken for lunch or a bottle of Soda after sunset(when shops close due to lurking leopards in the region!).

One can even drive down here from Delhi in a little over 7-8hours we hear. Visit this when in the mood to just unwind, chill and relax with no sightseeing agenda to boast of.

A great place to relax and feel the nature at it's awe somest !! Normally choose this time to holiday in this region which is rightly known as the fruit basket of kumaon...... it's plums , peaches all around in full bloom .The place was full of trees with fruits in over load with nice flowers all over (attaching pix) .

Cottages are nicely furnished with tea/coffee maker and loos are neat. Mind it, for the
TV addicts, no no don't get dissappointed.... there is a separate lounge with a 29" one with
dish connection and a DVD player (you could carry your own collection).

If you are fond of liquid intakes in the evening , there is another lounge with a deck where
you could sip and chat ..... very cosy and comfy. Panneer/veg pakoras would go well and you need to carry your own the mls/ltrs :)

Lot of treks/trails all around and a TT table too. In case you wish too laze around with your
music/books , couple of hammocks around too.

Food is very palatable with the right amound of spices and children can hog without a fuss....just need to adhere to the timings (all buffets). The lunches are normally veggie with
dinner being n-veg. Shepherd's pie served as part of continental dinner was most memorable as were the non-veg curries and veg items (bhindi pakoras and arbi cutlets were something pleasantly new for us ....). The dining area is a very cosy and cute little place to assemble and chat/bond.

Go for it guys...... i would definately love to re-visit.

Happy escapades !

Bob's Place is a super small homestay kind of resort, very tastefully designed to blend into the mountains. It has great views of the Uttarakhand mountains, is in a pretty secluded spot despite being on one of the main roads and is close to spots like Mukteshwar, Sitla and Ramgrah. Staff is very hospitable and accommodating. Food could do with some improvement but its not a no-go.
Book directly with Bob to avoid the ridculously high mark-up that WelcomHeritage charges.
