This is my first review on Tripadvisor and I feel I owe it to Tripadvisor because I consult it for each single holiday. As a young family from Serbia we opted for Fame Residence in Goynuk, Turkey primarily because of the climate – we didn’t want unbearably hot weather for our 10 month baby. Kemer region where Goynuk is located is quite mountainous and almost always you can feel a cool refreshing breeze (our term was in june-july). Nearest larger town is Kemer, bus ride takes 15mins and costs 1.5 EUR.
Hotel territory size is adequate, pool is very nice as you can see from our photos, they also have a solid spa center, British pub and there’s a small aqua park for kids. It takes 2 min walk from hotels main building to beach and there’s a road to be crossed so beware of the Turkish drivers who don’t have the habit of passing pedestrians even on fully marked pedestrian crossings. Sun beds on the beach are solid quality and beach bar is pleasant place to escape the sun in the middle of the day. You can get inflatable water toys from the beach boy at no extra cost.
Fame Residence’s all inclusive concept is standard and fair. You pay only for mini bar (with exception of one bottle of water delivered to mini bar every day for free), imported drinks and extra services such as massage, washing of clothes etc. You can eat and drink all day except between 23:00 and 00:00 (room service between 00:00-06:00 is included in AI). Main restaurant is very close to the pool and around the pool you can eat snacks like “gezlemi” (traditional Turkish pastry with ingredients of your choice – you are watching them making it) or cookies later in the afternoon (one tasty kind of cookie is fried at the spot – I waited for 5mins at the times in the line for it but it was worth it).
Rooms are up to 4 star standards, they all have balconies and view on the pool and the hotel park. Wireless internet access is available only in the lobby. I see this as a minus because it will require a small investment to broaden the wireless range to include all the rooms, pool and even the beach. Another thing that annoyed me with internet is that they have some kind of keyword filter so typing even innocent words in Google like “advisor” will get you to their “access forbidden because of safety” page. Even going directly to e.g. tripadvisor.com will be blocked because it contains word “advisor”.
For lunch or dinner they usually had some meat or fish (mackerel) on the grill along with 5-6 other main dishes, salads of every kind, cakes, plenty of melons, watermelons etc. You could eat at beach bar with the nice sea view – freshly grilled mackerel was very tasty. Hotel staff will get out of their way for you – they prepared simple baby food for us at no extra cost.
As with almost all hotels in Antalya region most of the guests are Russian speaking (Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan etc.) and Turks. Basically it feels like you are in the Soviet Union It’s funny – all the people including hotel staff will walk up to you saying quite complex things in Russian assuming you are Russian too. Anyway at least no drunken British youth around the pool like on our previous holiday (I am pretty sure that group never even saw the sea, they just lied wasted around/in the pool all day). All Russians and Turks we got to know were very nice, conversed with us over dinner, played and smiled with our baby although we did noticed that Moscow crowd is holding their noses too high in the air. Russians from other cities were much more down to earth and friendly.
Animation team is quite active and there were lot of them for a hotel of this size – the impression during the whole holiday is that the hotel is quite roomy - which is good thing, e.g. there’s a single line of sun beds around the pool, not 2 or more like we saw at the hotels nearby etc. Gala night was very nice, staff worked really hard setting chairs and tables around the pool and the show about Turkish culture was good. We loved their competition shows where teams or couples compete in silly and funny activities. Shows are held in Russian, Turkish and English. Pool music quits at 23:00 when partygoers are sent to beach bar.
I am giving the highest ranking to the Fame Residence because its staff is really motivated to keep you happy and trouble free. They were polite, smiled a lot and helped you anyway they could. Hotel should improve their internet access and remove filters for certain English words. I guess all Russian words are going through since every evening I saw like 15 people with netbooks surfing the web and they could not surely stand that kind of “protection”. The conclusion: definitely worth the money we put in, a very nice and relaxing holiday.
