We arrived at the Katerina, and first impressions were very good. Nice reception area, clean and tidy pool area and gardens. We stayed in the self catering studio (No15). Whe we opened the door, our jaws dropped in stunned disbelief....OMG.... what is this??
The studio was smelling of damp, especially in the cupboard under the sink, where all the plates, etc were kept. We couldn't use the facilities, because no matter how many times we washed them, the smell remained. The 'bathroom' was awful, everytime we had a shower, the water ran into the bedroom. We had to pay 5 Euros a day for air con. The doors onto the balcony were wooden, with no locks, just a latch and a handle!! As we were on the ground floor, we were a bit wary of our security.
Rightly or wrongly, we didn't complain, because it looked like all the studios were the same, so what was the point??
The rooms look nothing like the ones on Tripadvisor, TUI or the hotel websites. I have attached a couple of photos for readers to compare. These studios are in serious need of an upgrade!
Were not fussy people, so we made the best of it. All in all we had a good holiday in Zakynthos.

Room Tip: Don't go self catering!

We have just come back from a week at katerina palace studios and have had a lovely week. The studios are a basic clean Greek hotel for the price you pay .All the staff are very friendly and helpful and katerina is always there if you need her .We have been going for the last 10 years and we see repeat customers every time we visit .The hotel is cental for Argassi .The two pools and gardens are kept immaculate.

In my opinion this is nowhere near a 4 star hotel. I have stayed in many 3, 4 & 5 star hotels & self catering premises around Europe & beyond & can honestly say Katerina palace is at best a 2 star self catering around & TUI should review this place more thoroughly. We had several issues but unfortunately did not manage to see our rep until it was too late to do anything. Unfortunately we also witnessed an extremely upsetting incident by the pool that my partner and I still see vividly in our minds. Eating out is relatively cheap & plenty to choose from

Room Tip: Self catering is not good

Stayed at Katerina Palace in september, firstly i would never describe it as a 4 star hotel, maybe two, on arrival we were met by the receptionist who demanded 42 euros tax, fair enough this is not the hotels fault, but it will probably put us off going to Greece next year, the breakfast room is too small with everyone pushing and jostling just to get a cup of weak coffee, we weren't impressed by breakfast and only tried it once, we went out for the rest of the fortnight. There seemed to be a lack of sunbeds with some getting up in the middle of the night to lay down towels and not use their beds all day, the hotel should be removing these towels.
After a week or so we noticed the water in the main pool was turning green, we mentioned it to the staff who insisted it was fine and had been checked, unfortunately we will never know if this contributed to the sad death of an elderly gentleman who apparently jumped into the pool, had a heart attack and drowned, because the water was like pea soup he wasn't spotted for some time, until a young man with swim goggles saw him on the bottom of the pool, despite all attempts he sadly passed away,a sad reflection of this hotel was the bar stayed open the music carried on playing and they even kept the pool open, absolutely disgusting, they were letting people into the pool where the poor chap had just died, Tui rep didn't come to the hotel to check people were ok, the police turned up a few hours later, took a few statements and photos, apart from that it seems it was being hushed up.

Room Tip: pick a different hotel

Stayed for 7 nights in ground floor studio. Staff were pleasant and pool area was nice enough, but studio was tatty and not the cleanest. It definitely needs updating and lacks basics like a bar of soap to wash your hands after using the toilet! There was only hot water on 3 days of our stay, the plug didn't fit the sink so washing dishes was fun (had to buy all stuff to wash up with). The kettle popped and we also lost power, the lock also broke on the door so we were temporarily unable to access our studio, although the hotel did solve these two problems quickly. We holiday in Greece a lot,and know what to expect with often basic accommodation. But,have to say this was substandard and we expected more from Tui.
