The Aardhaar guest house is owned by Ilyas and Arifa, the same lovely people who own the well-reviewed Swades guest house, and true to form they have put enormous effort into creating a comfortable and attractive place to stay. Stylish touches and attention to detail are everywhere, and Ilyas proudly showed me his innovations when I arrived. Some of these include: lovely stained glass detailing in the light, spacious and cheerful rooms, attractive and solid furniture throughout, netting on the windows, rooms with open balconies looking out towards the sea or the neighbouring palmeraie, an open bathroom where you can perform your morning ablutions with the birds overhead and a view of the sea, (all the rooms have traditional closed bathrooms too,) a shared open roof terrace with kitchen, fans and optional AC, comfy beds with two sheets each! (usually in India only one is provided,) free wifi with multiple routers so that the whole building is covered, and modern and efficient electrics. Ilyas has even created extra windows simply so that you can use the private bathrooms whilst looking out over the view.
If there is a down side it is that the guest house is sited fifteen minutes walk from the town centre, but if you really don't want to walk, a rickshaw at tourist rate is only going to cost you 50rs, and frankly, for the views and the tranquility, (I woke to bird song every morning,) it is worth the small extra effort, and you will find the people of Pondy cheerful and happy to chat, especially if you speak French.
Rooms cost from 1200rs to 2000rs
