Stayed at this hotel in 2009. Is good.

Just 500 m from Promenade Beach, The Richmond is located in Pondicherry. It offers 2 dining options and cosy rooms with a cable TV. Wi-Fi and parking are free.

The Richmond is 1 km from Pondicherry Railway Station, Aurobindo Ashram and the lively Shopping Street. Auroville is 15 km from the property.

Soothing wall colours and vibrant coloured fabrics feature throughout the guestrooms. Included in all units are a seating area and minibar. Select bathrooms have a bathtub.

Guests can sample a variety of local and international dishes at the Bistro Restaurant. Draught beers are offered at S3 Bar.

Staff at the tour desk assist with car rental and travel arrangements. In-room dining options are possible with room service.

Good location!

"White Town" is the French Quarter in Pondicherry primarily the French families are still living there and the houses being converted into heritage hotels and restaurants and art galleries. A very well planned clean laid out area with trees providing a continuous shade and buildings dominated with pale yellow color.

Breakfast included

We stayed here for couple of nights. This is a three star property located in close proximity of the promenade beach. Very nice location. We stayed in deluxe room. Room was not that spacious, but was ok for two persons. You get mini bar facility, however that will be charged extra in case you use. Food was good. There is no covered parking. Room service was good. The hotel is just 800 metres away from puduchery railway station.
Overall, recommend!

Great property, pleasantly appointed rooms, very close to the beach in the French quarter. All the good restaurants are within walking distance and even the restaurant in the hotel is cozy and nice. Overall, quite clean and tidy. Reasonably priced after the discount we got online. Would have deserved a rating of 4.

However, all the good impressions one makes on arrival slowly dissipate when you notice all the small areas of neglect and annoyances - the air-conditioning took ages to cool the room even on a moderately hot day; maintenance did not turn up until prodded a couple of times and then he could only explain the various settings as a solution - well, I'm sure he couldn't do anything, this requires a company maintenance person to look at the problem. The bathroom, clean and tidy, satisfying enough at first sight ... until you notice the tiny little niggling problems - the soap stand in the shower broke and no one bothered replacing it; the lever which you have to pull to direct the water to the overhead shower does not stay in place and has to be held, twisted, turned; the hair dryer didn't work. In the room, one of the bedlamps didn't work and the one socket that is there cannot have a charger plugged in without switching it off, the switch is so close. To be fair, the reception sent an extension box on asking.

And so on ...

The staff are all very polite, helpful and smiling but very poorly trained, especially the waiters who do not know how to wait on people.

Sad to see that what could have been a great stay is diminished purely due to poor management.

I'd have rated it 3.5 but that option isn't there and I don't want to rate it the full 4 points I would have without the myriad tiny problems.

Room Tip: Check the room fittings and the quality of air conditioning in the room before unpacking. If not okay, ask for a change.

Not a big resort but one of the best hotels with very polite staff. Worth every pennny. the location is right in the white town with walkable distance to the beach and all the good restaurants. We had a car but all the places were close enough to go on feet.
