“Good Place to Stop Over”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2009

This hotel was booked for us as part of a package. We stayed for one night one our way to Darjeeling and another night on our way back. We found our rooms comfortable and clean. The hotel sits well back from a busy road so noise isn't a problem. When I found that the electric adaptor I brought from home would not fit the sockets someone from the front desk ran out a bought a replacement and gave it to me free, a nice gesture. We ate in the vegetarian hotel restaurant on the first night but decided that wasn't to our taste. The assistant manager told us that their policy is to take those on a prepaid package (like us) to a nearby restaurant for "standard" food at no extra cost. We took him up on it and were quite satisfied. The hotel building is older but well maintained and we noticed workers renovating some of the rooms.

I was trying to look for a better option than Sinclairs at Siliguri and i ventured the net and booked myself at this hotel...
I think it was built in the sixties and is still there... It was Bad...
Terrible Rooms, dirty linen & washroom, the restaurant was a disaster, and the staff indifferent...
I stayed for a day and moved back to Sinclairs...

It should first be appreciated that Siliguri is not a tourist city. We were there two nights with a full day in the city and our guide struggled manfully to fill the day so we needed a hotel were we could spend time by the pool or somewhere else reading.

This hotel does not fill that bill. The standard rooms we were first offered smelt and were poor . We negotiated an upgrade with the manager for "cash" and these rooms were better as they had just been refurbished.

There is nothing to do in this hotel unless you want to play snooker or pool or table tennis. The bar is in a rather small restaurant, there are very few other areas where you can meet friends and have a drink. The pool area had two broken wooden sun beds available, the children's pool was green with algae which somewhat put you off going in the other pool.

There is only one restaurant which is vegetarian. The food in the evening is not bad but it is quite small so if the hotel were full this would be a problem. Breakfast was a bit of a disaster if you did not want coffee and toast.

The staff were deliberately unattentive and unhelpful unless you flashed money.

This Cindrella is more an ugly sister.

  • Liked — The food in the Vegetarian Restaurant was ok

We stayed at the Cindrella for just one night in Dec. 2005. The rooms were clean, the staff helpful, and the food was excellent!
As vegetarians we knew that there was nothing on the extensive menu that we couldn't have. Absolute bliss! Even the non-veggies in the group said how much they enjoyed the variety of different dishes that they would not normally have even tried!

Would we stay again? Absolutely YES!!
