Sunbed wars!!

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 weeks agovia mobile
Stayed here as a family of 4 in Aug 2024. Overall had a nice time. The apartments are basic and probably could be doing with a bit of TLC as there are sighs of bad wear and tear in the apartments.

Pool area nice as is the bar/restaurant areas. In particular the bar/restaurant on the HG Cristian Sur side of the complex

There aren't lifts to the rooms and the stairs are quite tight, so made the daily journey with the kids buggy etc difficult.

For me I actually didn't find the room all that clean. There was a lot of dust etc under the bed, and the daily maid service in all honesty wasn't that great.

It was very hot at night but the ceiling fan helped a little, but had to have it on full blast all night.

Location was perfect for me. Right in the middle of the resort. Plenty bars and restaurants around and beach not far away.

We rarely used the pool area HG Tenerife Sur due to the extent of the sunbed situation. We instead went to the beach and on occasion went across the road to HG Cristian Sur complex which was slightly less chaotic. It was a pretty toxic situation to be honest and I just steered clear of the hostilty between feuding guests.

One guest in particular quite happily snatched 7 beds most morning, most of which were not used the entire day. One of the many unpleasant selfish type who happened to be staying at the same time as us.

Overall...Cheap and cheerful apartments. I would return as I like the area, but the apartments are very basic. May consider other apartments in the area next time if coming self catering.

Horrific. Complaint has gone into Jer2 as I can’t believe it’s on their books at all, never mind as a 3 star. 1 bed apartment, no air con, couldn’t swing a cat, no privacy, balconies close together, gas hob, artex walls and ceiling, no lift, fold out bed for an adult and child was tiny (would struggle if you were above average height/weight).
The area was even decribed by the air con hire man as rough and ready. He wasn’t wrong. Walking back one evening with our 2 daughters (10 & 23), spotted a man hiding behind a tree. Graffiti everywhere, dirty. All round vile

Room tip: Don’t go

Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights with friends, when we first arrived at night we were met with several flights of stairs which we had to drag our cases up (although this was mostly our fault from lack of research). When in the room we realised that there was no actual air conditioning, only two fans (one in the living area and one in the bedroom) blowing hot air around the apartment.

We went for a quick walk our first night and wanted to check out the pool area to see every single sunbed reserved with towels just before midnight. Ironically, a sign in front of the pool area said that reserving sunbeds between certain times would not be permitted. We didn't stand any chance at reserving sunbeds any morning of our holiday, it was only because of the lifeguard removing unclaimed towels later on in the day that we managed to get a couple.

We were half-board, breakfast was very good with a decent selection to suit everyone, however, dinner was extremely poor. It wasn't the quality of the food that was the problem but the selection, I myself am quite a bland eater and could not find anything to eat, there was no chips, pasta, pizza (beige food), only 10 random food options at the buffet. What annoyed us most was that while sat at our table, the waiter walked by us with chips and spaghetti bolognaise to guests that were paying.

Finally, the room service was shocking, in the four days that we were there we only received fresh towels on the first two days, which left us using the same towels for 3 days. When I had seen that the maids had not given us fresh ones I went to reception to request some, where I was met with a very unhelpful member of staff. He said that the maids do not clean rooms 2 days of week and today was one of those days, while I understood that, I was only asking for fresh towels, not to have the room deep cleaned. He refused to give me towels. On our last day (which we spent 35 euros to keep the room a bit longer) we washed with 3-day old towels.

Although this review has mainly focused on the negatives, my friends and I did have a brilliant holiday and made the most out of the situation we were in, but most of these things would be enough to put a dampener on anyone's holiday.

Sunbeds at the pool are a joke, there aren’t enough sunbeds to go around and very few umbrellas. The only way to get a sunbed is to go out in the middle of the night and put towels out, but then someone may well just take yours away and put theirs out instead. It really spoils the hotel as the location, cleanliness and staff are all great. They just need to invest in more sunbeds and umbrellas. We would not come back.

Room tip: Avoid if you want to have a relaxing time round the pool

Positives -
The hotel complex is overall clean.
Restaurant serve good food as part of the buffet and there is a great selection both breakfast and dinner.
The staff are very friendly.
The pool area, reception and shop is modern and serves a good purpose.
Studio rooms are modern, overall good for a room abroad.

Negatives -
The hotel is located at the far end of the urban area. The nearest beach is a fair walk and the coastal area is the old town harbour. We used taxis or buses everyday to get to the more vibrant, modern and club area - los Americanos / Costa Adecki.
Safe in room incur a daily charge.
The drinks at the hotel bar require you to remortgage your own home.
Every sun bed around the pool has a towel thrown on by 7am. There is the option to lay on the grass if arriving beyond this time.
Night time entertainment comprises of a local singer performing the karaoke on a microphone close to the street edge. Seating close by, very awkward situation.
No day time entertainment / never the less the night time entertainment is N/A.

We got a package deal with Tui - £1500 - 7 nights - studio room - half board.
I felt as though it would be worth around £800 based on overall experience.
