We knew in advance that this was one of the only options in the area. We had great weather, and therefore the views were spectacular. We stayed in a "motel" room, which had an adequate view & patio, but the room had a "camp" kind of feel to it. Definitely older and the bedspreads are in serious need of replacement. However, the room seemed clean. The buffet breakfast was ok. The Panorama restaurant was nice but not fantastic, although the view at sunset was wonderful. It was pretty much what we had expected based on reading prior reviews, but if you have very high expectations for the food and accommodations you may be disappointed.

Dear valuable guest,

Thank you for posting your feedback on TripAdvisor.com.
Our ultimate aim is to exceed guest expectation but it looks like that in your case we were unable to do so.
The Hermitage Hotel consistently gets updated and refurbished to ensure our beautiful hotel complex stays modern and reflects a ‘value-for-money’ feeling for our guests. The last multimillion-dollar upgrade was completed in November 2011 on all our Standard Rooms at the hotel and some of our motel units.
I am happy to advise that the next room upgrade has been confirmed and scheduled in to take place this winter to the outside of our Wakefield Wing (which holds 40 of our superior room). At this stage we do not see the need of upgrading our motel units any further as they already reflect good quality and most importantly value-for-money to most of our guests. We will certainly follow up on your comment in regards to the bedspreads.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and for staying at the Hermitage Hotel, Aoraki Mount Cook. We hope we will be able to welcome you back in the near future.

Best regards,

Alexander Tschampel

Having been a regular traveller to NZ since 1992, I had never been into Mt. Cook village; I had just fly fished the Tasman stream below it. So this year I took my partner in for the evening, and we weren't disappointed. Our room in the motel section was comfortable, and an easy walk up to the main complex to the Panorama room restaurant. We had a lovely meal watching the golden glow of the sunset on the majestic Mt. Cook peak. In the morning we walked in the valley before a sumptuous breakfast.
I would thoroughly recommend a night here, as it is an easy diversion of the main highway.

Deciding to spend extra money for an expensive room for our anniversary we were bitterly disappointed. We booked a Premium room for $479, and from the moment you walk through the door the only thing saving the room is the view. I have stayed of plenty of hotels around the whole, in amazing locations like Mt Cook and there is no way they should be allowed to charge that amount of money with that quality of rooms. The paint work and flooring looked like they had about million people stay and never been touched up in about 20 years. The bed spread looked like it either needed to be cleaned or thrown out with the amount of stains on it.
There was nothing special, outstanding or even slightly aesthetically pleasing about the room to warrant the price. Our overall feeling at this hotel was money making, wish we had spent our money elsewhere.

Dear valuable gust,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on TripAdvisor.com.
Our aim is to exceed guest expectations from the minute the guest arrives at the hotel and ensure that they have a memorable time throughout their entire stay. I regret that in your instance the quality of the room was not what you had expected but can assure you that feedback we receive about our Premium room category is predominantly positive.

As part of our ongoing hotel upgrade, the management team of the hotel has since agreed to take away all bedspreads in our hotel rooms and replace them with white, crisp linen. An improvement that partly has been implemented in some rooms and will most likely be finished by the end of this winter season.

I further would like to advise that the building which contains all of our Premium rooms was newly build in 2001 and the quality of the rooms has consistently maintained by our hotel maintenance team.

Once again, I regret that your have not enjoyed your stay with us this time but hope we will be able to welcome you back to the hotel in the future.

Best regards,

We stayed for 1 nights in a chalet which we found was clean, comfortable and roomy if not a little dated. The staff on reception were very helpful and friendly. After a short walk up from our chalet we dined in the Panorama Room and had a very enjoyable meal, the service was very good. We would have liked to have stayed at least another day to enjoy the scenery.
