“Mostly a good experience but ....”
Reviewed 10 April 2012 via mobile

I stayed at the hotel in April - after we had booked found out the restaurant would be closed ( it was a bank holiday though)
Stayed in the stable block and the room was very good but there were the remains of a sherry (I think) decanter on the desk.
The hospitality of the owner was excellent and we were made to feel welcome and the breakfast was excellent.
The only rel criticism was the shower - certainly wasn't a power shower!
Would I stay again? Yes certainly!

Thanks for your comments and sorry about the shower. We are aware that a few showers are a little weak and are in the process of upgrading them - in fact the room I believe you stayed in (10) has already been done. Glad everything else was to your satisfaction. By the way, the sherry was there for your enjoyment - sorry that wasn't made clear. See you next time

I was taken here in 2004 for my retirement dinner. The food was OK, but the wine (expensive) was distinctly average. On another occasion my wife and I went for an overnight weekend brreak. Dinner was OK, but the room was draughty and noisy, and breakfast was terrible (the smoked fish was probably off and it was difficult to get served on a Sunday morning). Never again!

So sorry that we seem to failed you on two occasions. Both times may have been quite a while ago. Yes we do have bad days, but we try to keep these to a minimum, obviously!! Draughty rooms- we have a very old building so keeping the wind at bay can be a problem, although we do try. Regarding the breakfast, we have fish deliveries 4-5 days a week, so hopefully 'off' fish shouldn't occur. If you do find time to visit again we will do our best to make amends

I stayed here again on my last night before flying out from the UK. This time I had family with me amnd there was a unimous view that one night is not enough! Next time we shall try and stay longer. Although the excellent restaurant is not open on Sunday evenings, Peter was very helpful and directed us to an excellent alternative nearby - the Rusty Gun.
Breakfast at Redcoats is always excellent.

We wanted a nice place to stay before catching an early flight from Luton airport (20 mins away)
Redcoats was perfect! A lovely slice of home-style country living. Such a refreshing change to the standard hotel chains

We went back to this hotel 25 yrs after we spent our wedding night there. We enjoyed every minute of it. Room was beautifully furnished, bathroom amazing and food absolutely out of this world-[try the brown bread ice cream]. Staff a little bit eccentric just like the house, but it all adds to the total charm of the place.

It would be perfect for a special occasion and the beautiful grounds would be just right for a summer wedding or a garden party. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for and for us it was worth every penny.
