Description: Situated in the centre of historic Sawbridgeworth, Goose Fat and Garlic offers something for every palate and every occasion. A range of menus caters for everyone from the casual diner looking for a quick lunchtime sandwich, to a business meeting over an a la carte dinner. A set price a la carte menu during the week offers a great dining experience at a very reasonable price, and an authentic tapas menu is a great causal eating option - ideal for groups. The bar attached to the restaurant provides the perfect meeting place for those just wanting a drink, or for pre and post- meal gatherings, and is known for its great cocktails and extensive wine and beer choices. The ambiance is smart but relaxed.

We have eaten here many times, (maybe two ro three times a year) going back to its incarnation when it replaced a restaurant called 'The Shoes' It is a few minutes walk from a close relative, whom we travel down from the WIrral to visit. I have also reviewed several times and always with a 4 or 5 star rating. It was one of our favourites. Ala, sinc eour last visit in March, the menu has been ruined by turning a large part of it into a Tapas menu. Whilst they have a few standard dishes, as 'Mains' one presumably has to choose a 'Tapas' dish as a starter. Gone has the ever changing interesting choices of maybe 8 starters and 8 mains. It was tempting just to leave. We had Ham croquettes to start , these were bland and tasteless, didnt even contain much ham ! The chicken escalope was just about OK, and the dessert billed as Creme Catalena, was just a Creme Brulee with a faint hint of orange flavour. This cooking was overall not a patch on what has gone before, both in quality and in its inventiveness. Have the owners changed or just the chef ? . Definitely
downmarket . I am rather saddened this had happened. It would be interesting to hear a response as to why they have done this

This came highly recommended so possibly our expectations were too high but having to send 2 meals back didn't help.
The Lamb was so rare that it was inedible and the paella was cold.
To be fair they did send out new meals but just be warned you may wish to ensure that the meat is cooked to your liking when ordering.
The other strange thing was the so called Pil Pil Prawns, I have been to many places in Spain and are usually there at least twice a year and this doesn't bear any resemblance to what you would get in ANY Spanish restaurant.
All in all it wasn't bad but was disappointing and let itself down
Honestly wouldn't rush to go back.
