We have eaten here many times, (maybe two ro three times a year) going back to its incarnation when it replaced a restaurant called 'The Shoes' It is a few minutes walk from a close relative, whom we travel down from the WIrral to visit. I have also reviewed several times and always with a 4 or 5 star rating. It was one of our favourites. Ala, sinc eour last visit in March, the menu has been ruined by turning a large part of it into a Tapas menu. Whilst they have a few standard dishes, as 'Mains' one presumably has to choose a 'Tapas' dish as a starter. Gone has the ever changing interesting choices of maybe 8 starters and 8 mains. It was tempting just to leave. We had Ham croquettes to start , these were bland and tasteless, didnt even contain much ham ! The chicken escalope was just about OK, and the dessert billed as Creme Catalena, was just a Creme Brulee with a faint hint of orange flavour. This cooking was overall not a patch on what has gone before, both in quality and in its inventiveness. Have the owners changed or just the chef ? . Definitely
downmarket . I am rather saddened this had happened. It would be interesting to hear a response as to why they have done this
