This hotel is situated in a very nice area, between Hoogeveen and Assen and located at the edge of the Dwingelderveld. The hotel offers several cycling routes and supplies.

The entrance of this hotel looks nice and shows the 4-Star hotel sign. Reception staff is friendly and there's a nice open terrace with fountain to grab a drink.

Next to the reception a door will lead you to the hallway with the rooms. Some maintenance is required here. The room itself smelled pretty bad and several stains in the ceiling and bathroom. The bathroom itself seems pretty outdated with old-fashioned coloring and no bath (later we've noticed the 'Budget Double Room' does have a bath while the 'Standard Double Room' doesn't. Two separate beds and a rather small TV in a corner don't add up to a 4-star rating.

All rooms are non-smoking and a door gives access to the shared terrace. The room is fited with roller shutters so it will get really dark at night, combined with no outside noise due to the quiet area add up to a great sleep. If you're not moving in the noisy bed that is, or you neighbour (walls are pretty thin).

Breakfast does make up for a lot of these issues, the breakfast is great! Still we don't think this is a 4* hotel...

Room Tip: The 'Budget Double Room' seems to be slightly better than the 'Standard Double Room'

Unbelievable that this hotel gets a 4 star ranking. The walls are so thin you can hear every exact word from the people next to you. We had neighbours which coughed the entire night. Internet was extremely expensive and breakfast was not ready at the time they advertise.

I have stayed at this hotel over the past 15-20 years. Was surprised to see it is a Best Western now! Our experience of this chain is that they don't live up to 4 star standards. But knowing Holland and their standards we were fairly confident it would be good.

Firstly we expected a double en-suite to have a double bed as previous years. Twins were velcroed together, single mattresses with single duvets. We asked for a double bedded room and were told they were all the same. Asked if they had at least a double duvet and was told they would check with houskeeping. Finally after two days we asked the cleaners ourselves and were told they had no spare ones BUT discovered they did have double bedded rooms as we were shown one whilst interpreting double duvet!

Menu was quite limited, luckily we eat at either the bar/restaurant opposite or another hotel the opposite side of the motorway which was excellent.

We had to ask for butter at breakfast, orange juice to be re filled, there was rarely staff on hand at breakfast.

The hotel itself was very pleasant and the staff generally helpfull when asked but you always had to ask.

I would suggest if you need to stay in this area stay at the Van Der Valk on the opposite side of the motorway.
