We have been to El Bahira a few years before and we were looking forward to returning. It's still as picturesque as we remembered but there were a few changes that weren't for the better. We had stayed with Keycamp which were very good. Eurocamp have changed the air conditioning and it's on a timer of 2 hours. It's nowhere near powerful enough in the 35c+ heat and getting up through the night to switch it on is annoying. A day setting and night setting would've been more useful. The entertainment staff weren't as good as the previous time either. They used to come around the poolside and speak to the children and let them know what they would be doing in the kids club and always made my kids feel included and made an effort to speak to them in English. However, the staff this year weren't up to the same standard. I took the kids to one of the kids clubs and asked if they could speak any English and they said not really. My kids never wanted to go back after that session as no one spoke to them. One evening was karaoke and we thought we would check it out, my eldest loves to sing but we discovered (after an hour of karaoke song games) that an announcement was made in the morning and you had to put your name down if you wanted to sing. That's fine if you can speak Italian and if you're spending the day at el bahira and not at the beach. The pools are lovely but we avoided it at the weekends as it is very, very busy with weekend visitors. Apart from these quibbles, we did enjoy el bahira and they had a street food event which was really lovely, it was a great night. It's a beautiful place, and with some tweaks a nice holiday could be an excellent one, especially if they take into account it's not only Italian speakers who want to visit and join in.

Just returned from a lovely relaxing week at El Bahira.

We stayed in Eurocamp accommodation which although not the newest and probably overdue replacement was spotlessly clean. John the rep was always available and helpful giving great advice on the local area and places of interest to visit. Nothing was too much for him to help with, thanks John.

The site itself wasn't fully operational, limited opening times for the shop with a small selection of goods available which isn't an issue as there is a great supermarket within 5 mins drive .The pool closes for 3 hours in the afternoon as does virtually be very thing else on site apart from he restaurant. Bread delivered every morning and keep your ears peeled for the fresh fish man in his van.

There is little English spoken on site but we managed to cope, the only negative point I can make is that one of the lifeguards spent time on his phone and was rude to guests at the end of the day when the pool was closing.Hats required for the pool but Bermuda shorts allowed.
snorkelling in the morning is great with lots of fish easily found within 10 mtrs of the shoreline.

The scenary is stunning and sunsets fantastic we managed to drive to both Etna and the valley of the tombs from site during the week, driving can be challenging with speed limits ignored and overtaking carried out at every opportunity.

There is a noise curfew which seems to be adhered to most nights unless there was a show on then it seemed into get ignored!!

Overall a great rustic retreat spotlessly clean with the ocean on your doorstep,if you want to chill and relax this is the place to go.

This is a lovely campsite with great facilities and the BEST staff ever! We arrived in a motorhome intending to spend 2 or 3 nights but our battery failed catastrophically on a bank holiday weekend so we ended up staying 5 nights. The staff, especially Giorgio the campsite technician, were so helpful. He took the battery away to try to get some charge in it, then drove us to a nearby town to buy a new battery, fitted it for us, then helped us sort out a related problem with a fuse. He has no English and we have little Italian but his daughter Niki works in the campsite reception and helped us with translation. Also, John who had arrived that day to be the new Eurocamp rep, helped as well. Top marks all round.
I should add, the pool is good, the toilet blocks are clean, the outdoor showers are typical of southern Italy and the food in the restaurant is highly recommended.

This campsite is fantastic for the climbing, massive crag directly behind the site with a huge number of great climbs.
The lodge accommodation we stayed in was very basic and had an ill-equipped kitchen. It's very dated and can't say it was particularly clean, saying that, it's fine if you just want to get your head down and just use it as a base for climbing.

When you go climbing to Sicily, El Bahira is like the best choice to stay in. Friendly atmosphere, close to the walls and decent fascilities make it our number one on Sicily. Getting to the closest sectors takes you less than 5 minutes!
