The last time I went to this restaurant was 2012 and it was always a hive of activity and full of customers locals and tourists alike. The staff were lovely and really got to know the locals and visitors. Their food was amazing and priced well. I couldn't wait to go back...
I have been many times at different times mainly summer and early autumn, This time was early autumn and I went a few times while I was visiting family and friends. It has new owners and has had a massive upgrade - it looks very upmarket, but the atmosphere is cold and has lost its spark. The owners had attitude, even with regulars.
One evening I was lucky enough to be sitting with locals at the Stampt Tisch and was shocked to see the way the waitress and the owner spoke to the elderly men at the table. Clearly when people get older they eat less, so many of the men at the table wanted smaller serves of things and asked if then could order from the children's menu or get a half serve from the main menu. Much to our disappointment we were told no and when asked why they blamed the chef and said he wasn't happy to serve a child's meal to an adult [I can understand that] or do half serves. [Yet my aunty got a half serve from the main menu when we dined a few days earlier]. So instead of thinking of it as a sale, getting cash in, they denied their requests. Needless to say none of us ended up ordering meals, just drinks. They lost at least 6 potential meals from our group and I believe they have done this before. The restaurant was almost empty that night...
I returned for lunch another day and again only us and another couple. Again I found the staff cold. I ordered the schnitzel and potatoes and the food was very good. So that's a plus.
I think if there was a bit more work on the friendliness of staff and they way they treat the guests it may help with the vibe of the place. Maybe it is different in the colder months? Maybe they should develop a seniors meal pricing like they do in many other places?
Give it a try, the scenery and the food are great.
