We went to the Rancho Tico on the recommendation of another couple staying at our condo complex. It is a real local place, a bit dark, but large inside. The night we went, there was a large group of four couples with 17 kids among them! On the side of the dining area there’s a large open area where the kids ran wild, which made for a noisy dinner, but that wasn’t the restaurant ‘s problem. The waitress was pleasant but spoke little English. We ordered local dishes and they were really good and reasonably priced. We watched pizzas coming out of their wood fired oven, which looked delicious. This is a real local place with few tourists. We enjoyed our night.

I ate garlic shrimp. They were a bit overcooked for my taste, but still tasty. It was served with rice and fresh cooked vegetables: a nice assortment. Others ate steak was excellent. Another had a personal size pizza which was still large enough to share. It was thin crust with not a lot of sauce.

A few good cocktails and beer
Highlight was the tico band rocking away in the rancho
Local crowd having fun
I wish I was a better dancer

Their seafood is always fresh and can be served with one of their delicious sauces. I don't know what they put in the vegetables but they are so good I eat every last one.

We were given this place as a true Costa Rican style restaurant with large portions.

It was worth the gold cart ride on pothole riddled muddy roads typical of area Thai time of year.

The menu was primarily in Spanish but with some English. We started with appetizer of the day, which ended up being fried plantains with guac, pico, and black beans. We saw the cook take down fresh plantains from pod. They were battered and crispy.

Entrees included chicken plate with black beans, rice, steam veggies, and candied plantains, same for hubby with pork chop, while our daughter had chicken fettuccini.

We were all very happy with our choices- top of list for meals during our CR trip.

Waitress spoke no English and service was extremely slow, and there was only one other occupied table mid afternoon!

Be prepared for wait but enjoy the food!
