Soup & sandwich lunch combo delicious beyond belief, twice. One day venison broth, the next cream of veg, and a rare roast beef sandwich that lived up to everything that should be. Nothing like a tramp with the dog in the Ellan woods followed by this hearty lunch at the Kitchen. Cheery and helpful service, particularly lovely speckled crockery too, and a wood-burning stove to warm the bones. Couldn't recommend more highly.

Absolutely awesome! We were 2 and dropped casually here during a trip to John o'Groats. Well, the bridge is beautiful, but the burgers cooked by this chef deserve a stop themselves! I chose one plus bacon (you have to pay 1£ for both bacon and cheese), but it comes a great portion, and it's delicious: you can feel the REAL meat in your mouth. Take a look also to the day specials: you can find the quiche of the week. And you won't be disappointed!
They also serve handmade cakes.

Lovely modern, tastefully decorated village cafe with delicious food and great coffee. Throw into the mix a roaring log burner on a cold winters day, what better place to refuel and warm up - with not so 'run of the mill' fayre but some unusual combos and a wide enough selection to tempt most palates and helpful, pleasant staff.

The food is good, quality ingredients, locally sourced, unfortunately the manageress/ owner doesn't listen to or act on positive suggestions. I visited "The Kitchen" over a year ago, just after it opened and suggested they used heated plates as my food had gone cold on their cold plates. Not much to ask and if the person cooking the food was a real cook, he would understand that hot food should be served on hot plates. I visited again two days ago and they had obviously not bothered listening to a customer. The plate and food was cold. The manageress/ owner has not passed on the suggestion to the "cook", is she worried she might upset him? The shame is that the food is good, just cold. try harder because the impression given by the manageress/ owner, is one of arrogance, read earlier posts from other reviewers. I've given a score of 2 out of 5, this doesn't reflect the quality of food. just heat your plates, it's a simple thing, Good hot food is ruined when it's cold. Wise up.
