Not centrally located but attached to the cricket ground. Nice pub with a good pub menu. Nothing out of the ordinary but reliably consistent. Small outside space.

I live next door to The Cricketers and the last two times have been substandard to the past few years I’ve had here, it’s got to the point where I’m going to stop bringing people here through embarrassment of the wait for food and the unfriendly staff.

I’m sat at my table writing this because it would seem as though I now have the time to complete this, as when I ordered from the set menu it was 30min wait. After the tiny excuse for a starter came out (see picture) we were told it would be another 40mins for the main course, the waitress didn’t really seem to care she just carried on wiping tables. It was like we were an inconvenience to her.

Won’t be coming back again.

Although friendly a number of the staff here really seem to have a problem with actually doing any work. The very fact that they reserve a table next to the bar for official breaks and impromptu chats speaks volumes and I have watched and listened to them chatting and laughing loudly while tables are covered in plates and glasses. Not sure who runs this pub but they need to come in and see what's going on.

The Sussex Cricketer is a great pub with a food selection of drinks. The staff are very friendly. We didn't eat here but the menu offered great pub grub.

Went for roast dinner and they were not very busy said the manager. We ordered roast beef. They were not busy but we waited too long for our meal. When it arrived it was luke warm, miserable "roast potatoes" and meat that was at least a third rubbery fat and gristle. We told the waitress and she ordered us a replacement. We waited again and when it came it was hotter. The rest was the same. The rubbish had been cut off and the "roast potatoes" where not even browned. I had some that looked like boiled potatoes. Spoke to the manager and he obviously was not particularly interested but did say he would talk to the chef. IS THERE A CHEF I ASK MYSELF?
Avoid this place.

Thank you for your review.

Unfortunately there was a slight wait on food that Sunday due to a cricket event at the adjoining County Cricket Ground, which was communicated at the time of ordering.

I will use this feedback constructively with my lead cook to ensure we can improve going forward
