“great hotel”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

Returned last week and can't fault this hotel except the lift that was out of order while we were there. Some of the locations within the hotel need a lift for elderly people so it needs prompt attention. Fabulous gardens and large rooms, food plentiful and lots of choice, something for everyone. Can't wait to return soon to see the little black under weight, unloved kitten that lives near the spa entrance.

Only back from H10 Rubicon Palace, after arriving we had to wait 2 hours for our room to be available, not a very good start. Once we eventually got into our room it was, i am afraid to say, shabby, not at all what we expected. The comples itself is very large. The All Inclusive element of the holiday was overall good value and the food presented was of a good standard at every meal we had in the hotel. Would i go back to the H10 Rubicon Palace, well frankly no, there are better places to stay in Playa Blanca.

Room Tip: Room 3117 very poor.

We attended the Rubicon between the 5th and 12th and upon arrival were blown away by the reception hall, absolutely stunning with a pianist playing near the bar! The porters who take you to your room are helpful but spoke little. Our room was lovely giant double beds that were the comfiest I have ever slept on, the bathroom was clean and it was spacious! Our maid did a fantastic job and was friendly. The food is widely varying there are Spanish dishes aswell as British in a buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner, there was also a Mexican and Chinese night which were nice, there was always an abundance of food constantly being replenished so there were few tussles as seen in many other hotels! Choice of three restaurants and the poolside restaurant was lovely in the mid-afternoon. The hotel seemed a lot windier than further down by the beach but this was pleasant when the sun became too much! The evening entertainment was pretty typical cheese but it was funny potentially for the wrong reasons it was good to see them not taking themselves seriously for the shows but they worked tirelessly to give well rounded performances aswell as lots of activities in the daytime they were a credit to the hotel. Overall it was amazing and would have no qualms going again at anytime of year, it wasn't packed but not dead and a range of people; young couples like ourselves, elderly couples and families. It was very good value for money as a late deal, a week in paradise.

The Rubicon Palace is one of the best 4* hotels we've ever stayed in, so why they call the group 'H10' I can't understand as it sounds more like a prison than a hotel! Rubicon Palace is a superb hotel for all ages with really large, comfortable bedrooms and balconies, excellent food, great entertainment staff, magnificant pools and grounds all beautifully maintained. Lovely position right alongside the sea with promenade where you can make the 30-40 minute walk along to Playa Blanca. Bus to Playa Blanca for 1.2 euros also right outside the hotel. Unfortunately the weather spoilt things for us as it was very cold for most of the 2 weeks we were there. Although the hotel did supply us with an electric fire and extra blankets when we asked we did find the public areas extremely cold - the doors always seemed to be open so the wind and cold air whistled through - not that good if you're relaxing in the beautiful piano bar lin the evenings. Only problem about the hotel was that one of the main lifts was out of order (had apparently been for 2 weeks before we got there as well) which meant waiting ages or climbing the 66 steps from the Restaurant to the main bar area. Because of the very cold weather we experienced, although we've had lovely hot sunshine on several previous visits to the Canaries in the winter, we're not likely to risk it again. We only go there for winter sunshine which, as we learned, is certainly not guaranteed. However we will definitely try another H10 hotel somewhere else.

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems make sure you ask for somewhere where they aren't too many steps.
