“A nice hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2012

This hotel is a 5 star but it has passed it Zenit. Some refresh of the interior and specially around the pool deck is needed (club section). Very nice breakfast and VERY nice staff. Due to bad weather the indoor temp was low, and no heating was available! burrr

Lovely hotel. Staff friendly and very helpful. Well worth paying to stay in the club volcan. Easy stroll to Playa Blanca. Lots of lovely restaurants at the Marina. If hiring a car visit El Golfo and have a meal at Largo Verde. Great fresh fish and brilliant service.

An extremely comfortable hotel in a delightfully quiet location on Marina Rubicon, it was great value for money. The design of the hotel is intriguing - a reception area designed to replicate a volcano but with a 3-storey waterfall within it is an immpressive starting point. The bedrooms in small groups across the site made for peaceful nights. To make the most of the views across the harbour and beyond, a request for a higher room is to be recommended. We stayed on Half board basis and found an excellent variety of food at both breakfast and dinner. The fish and meat cooked to order was delicious and plentiful and the service was fine. Our room was immaculately clean on arrival and was well attended throughout our stay. We loved the design of the garden lounging areas. To the west, Playa Blanca with all its restaurants and shops is an easy 20-30 minute walk away along the promenade - we would recommend Casa Pedro for superb seafood. To the East, the walk to the deserted Playa Papagao is a complete contrast. The otel and its environs exceeded our expectations. We found it such a relaxing place to be that we didn't bother to hire a car even for a day. Maybe on our next trip to Hotel Volcan we might, but I wouldn't be sure!

Room Tip: Higher rooms give best views and west-facing ones give best chance for seeing sunsets.

This hotel is excellent value for money and is a very good quality hotel overall in a fantastic location - a thirty second walk to the Rubicon Marina. We stayed here in October 2011 and had a lovely time - mostly spent by the pool - which is ideal for young children as the edges of the pool are graduated so they start very shallow and gradually get deeper.

We went breakfast only - and you couldn't really fault the breakfast - there is a HUGE choice of food - but it always amazes me how quickly you can become a little complacent about such a spread as you start to take it for granted!! The omelettes are great but I would advise getting your own fillings from the buffet (cheese, ham etc) as the one's given are otherwise not so generous!

The only negative thing I would say is that the hotel has no entertainment worth mentioning. There were a few things scheduled in but they were very amateurish and actually quite boring! The cocktail I had was actually strawberrry ribena with a spirit in it - so I would avoid cocktails and stick to beer!!

I think it says it all that I am writing about the contents of an omelette and a cocktail - there is very little to moan about overall. I guess the pool could do with a repaint - but you barely notice it after a day or so - and the lounger covers are very grotty and need replacing.

We actually really enjoyed our stay - loved the rooms - they have interconnecting rooms for kids too - and we found the staff extrememly pleasant and helpful.

If you want great entertainment - go to the Dorada hotel along the prominade - it's MUCH better - and they do very good (cheaper) cocktails! The restaurant on the Marina are fabulous - we loved Lani's - the staff are fantastic (Hello Rowan - we hope you and your lovely staff are all well!) and there are plenty to choose from. We also hired a car for four days and went around the island - the Costa Teguise market is worth a shot - although Costa Tequise as a place has been ruined by English pubs and football louts. Every other place has a tv with football - it is such a great shame.

We would definitely recommend this hotel - it was FULL when we went - so it is obviously doing a lot right - I think a lot has to do with the price as it was a lot lot less that the stuffy Yaiza (which I have to say is so over rated and pretentious - mostly down to the people that stay there - I most certainly prefer the Vulcan!!!).

Stayed in the Volcan for a week in October 2011.

Check in was slow and when it was finally complete it was another wait to find a porter to help with my lugage.

The rooms are split into various blocks on various levels. Mine was on the third floor ovrlooking the top pool. The room itself was very nice, a good size and nicely decorated inside. Because the blocks of rooms are spread out around the resort it tends to be very peaceful with no noisey neighbours when you are trying to get to sleep.

I went on half board. There was plenty of choice but I would only describe the food as average quality. One night there was a wedding reception in the restaurant, so only half of it was available for guests. I saw lots of people queuing outside due to the reduced space, which isn't what you should expect from a 5* hotel.

At the bottom of the gardens there is a gate whicn takes you into the marina area. Plenty of bars and eating places along with the weekly market. Not much by way of entertainment though. If you are looking for nightlife then it's a 20 minute walk into Playa Blanca.

Overall a nice hotel with good service, but not realy 5 star.

Bad points - lack of entertainment

Good point - the roof on reception is shaped like a volcano and twice the height of any other building. You'll never get lost as you can see it from anywhere in Playa Blanca,

Room Tip: Higher is better
