Description: Description: Since 1974, Chanquinhas in Leca da Palmeira, housed in a former manor house is distinguished by the quality of the food and the wine list quite complete. A sophisticated and refined space where luxury is not, however, synonymous with elitism. A tastefully decorated, concerned with the cult of detail. Old palace, it still keeps some traits reminiscent of the recent past that gives this restaurant a certain aura, decor aside, prevails as the reference for its traditional cuisine, restaurant where the flavors of Portugal are present in each dish!

This is fine dining without the price tag. Waiting staff in dinner jackets. Matching crockery and pristine table cloths. Antiques and artworks that would be equally at home on the set of Downton Abbey.

We turned up without a reservation and were anxious whether we'd get in. However the Portugal v Chile match was on television and so we had the place virtually to ourselves. It was undivided attention from the waiters (between checking the score) and silver service throughout. Exceptional! This is traditional, romantic, historic, gastronomic all rolled into one. Lots of ambience, good service and good food. English menu available and English speaking staff.

Unfortunately Portugal lost on a penalty shootout!

I had expected little change from €100 but our bill with starters, main courses, desserts, coffee, beer and a good bottle of wine came to 64.50. I think that's great value and we would undoubtedly eat here again when in the Porto area.

Found this restaurant on trip adviser since it's my first time in this area . The restaurant was classic with that old smell to it but I guess that's what makes it different .The food was very good !!! I had the shrimp cream soup and the grilled octopus. Both dishes were excellent . I would recommend it to anyone in this area. Service was good also very nice people there .

There are restaurants that truly are an Institution! With a fine and traditional service you won't find in a restaurant nowadays (special in the news wannabes') along with truly authentic portuguese food this is one of the few restaurants in which I can truly feel at home. Amazing people, exquisite athmosphere and great service.

Thought we would have a miserable last dinner in a soulless hotel close to Porto airport but found this gem. Waiter was very pleased to practice his English and told us everthing was a speciality of the region and the house. I had the best calamari of our holiday with a great selection of vegetables. Looking forward to our next visit.

This restaurant is set in an old manor style house with a very traditional décor. It is quite spacious inside and has a room that may be used for more private groups. It has a wide selection of dishes, all of excellent quality. It has a good selection of wines too. Everything is top rated but with top quality comes expensive pricing, although well worth it! Highly recommendable!
