This is fine dining without the price tag. Waiting staff in dinner jackets. Matching crockery and pristine table cloths. Antiques and artworks that would be equally at home on the set of Downton Abbey.
We turned up without a reservation and were anxious whether we'd get in. However the Portugal v Chile match was on television and so we had the place virtually to ourselves. It was undivided attention from the waiters (between checking the score) and silver service throughout. Exceptional! This is traditional, romantic, historic, gastronomic all rolled into one. Lots of ambience, good service and good food. English menu available and English speaking staff.
Unfortunately Portugal lost on a penalty shootout!
I had expected little change from €100 but our bill with starters, main courses, desserts, coffee, beer and a good bottle of wine came to 64.50. I think that's great value and we would undoubtedly eat here again when in the Porto area.
