“Promises more than it delivers”

This is a strange accumulation of various assorted bits of buildings that have been added on at various times, so there are odd slopes in the floors. This claims to be a child friendly site, and there are lots of ride-on toys, playground etc around, but it was wet the whole time we were there, so the bikes etc were unusable. There is also a major damp problem in the house, the curtains felt damp to the touch, as were the clothes I unpacked on our return home. The house generally is in need of refurbishment - the decoration is tired, the bathrooms need improvement and although the house will sleep 10 I think it would be very difficult to cook a meal for 10 on the stove and equally to wash all the pots and pans in one go in the dish-washer. There is no mobile reception, although Wi-Fi is available and the television and radio reception is intermittent, so having a television in every room is more for show than use. Overall I was disappointed with this house.

We are sorry that this guest did not enjoy his stay – he had just come back from Spain, had grandchildren to entertain, and was not happy with the cold, wet weather – unfortunately there was nothing we could do about that. He is also very much a 5 star Hotel person, as can be seen from his other reviews, so we can understand that our modest self-catering property might not have been up to his expectations – in a large & well used property there is always decorating to do, but our property is clean & well presented, accurately described on our web site, and all of the photos we post are recent, i.e. you get exactly what we say you get.
The house is 200 years old with 2 foot thick stone walls, is well insulated, has full central heating, and all of the windows and doors are modern double glazed upvc, so we strongly object to the suggestion that it is damp. We have checked every wardrobe and drawer, all of which smell sweet and are bone dry, so are at a loss to explain his damp clothes.
The cooker is a full size gas cooker with 4 hobs , grill & oven – no-one else has ever mentioned struggling to cook for their family. Equally the dishwasher is full size.
We are in a beautiful valley in one of the prettiest parts of Cornwall, and poor mobile reception is one of the prices you have to pay for that (many see it as a major plus!) – there is free wifi , & mobile reception is only a 200 metre walk away. We do not normally have problems with TV reception – if it had been mentioned at the time we may have been able to sort it out.
