I am going to repeat what many have said previously...the bread at The Old Bakery is delicious. The full English breakfast was a great meal to start the day, but the toasted sourdough bread was a highlight. I wouldn’t normally rave about the useless condiment of toast, but this is an exception.
You can tell the “starter” used to begin the sourdough process is deliciously old and mellow. I recognize this because my grandmother had one in the back of the fridge she used for years to start her sourdough breads. The finished product The Old Bakery has to offer is wonderfully subtle with hints of sourness layered with yeasty sweetness. The toasted crust was superbly crunchy with a decadent nutty flavor.
Again, I’m not used to using words like decadent and yeasty sweetness to describe toast, but suffice to say our table of four had three full baskets before we had our last teas and coffees.
Overall a great comfy place with friendly service. Highly recommended.
