Great location attached to the monastery was a wonderful surprise. Don't expect satellite TV in the rooms they are spartan but this is part of the charm. The food was very good at dinner with some local wines. The view from terrace outside the restaurant is stunning. Our only problem was that arriving early afternoon we found the monastery cafe shut... we needed to get a taxi to go to the nearby town of Poblet.. Also expect an early rise as the bells calling the monks to prayers at 0450 hours. Still overall we loved the atmosphere and calmness and would return.

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend and were greeted by a friendly and helpful receptionist. The room was spacious, comfortable with beatufiul views. The hotel has a great location and I would highly recommend to anyone intersted in visiting.

Room Tip: Great views, comfort and relaxing

The initial problem here is finding the place. It is not a hotel, not sign-posted or advertised and is only accessible by car. To gain access, you have to pass under an archway clearly marked 'No Access except for authorised vehicles'. No gatekeeper, no guidance.
Having passed this test, you eventually find the hostatgeria - a hostel rather than a hotel. Reception was efficient enough and the building, including the room, has been recently refurbished. It is clean and the décor uses a lot of wood. The room was split-level with four steps between levels and no hand-rail. It is quite large, but a lot of space is wasted. The bed is large and comfortable. There is no TV, no safe, no bottled water and no mini-bar. There is one tiny radiator in the bathroom: no other heating. We were permanently cold. Wifi is good.
Having unpacked, it being about 18.00 hrs, we fancied a drink before dinner. BUT, there is no bar and no vending machine. You either go out or wait until the restaurant opens at 20.00 hrs. Even if you had the foresight to BYO, there are no glasses, only thin plastic mugs. Not conducive.
We ate two dinners in the restaurant, being on half-board terms. One was frankly atrocious - tepid, greasy - freezer to table with a passing encounter with a microwave. The second was much better because we specified clearly which bits of the menu we wanted and which not. Service was amateur, but friendly enough. For a mere 15 euros per head including a bottle of local wine, one cannot be too critical. The two breakfasts we had were pretty basic. Bought-in charcuterie, bought-in bread, nothing hot. Drinks were provided by machines - watered-down orange juice and mediocre coffee.
If the place is making any money at all, it is doing so from conference groups. They are not professional or welcoming enough to attract many paying punters.
Having said all of this, the hostatgeria is only two minutes walk from the lovely monastery (reviewed separately) and is certainly not expensive.

I was there in a package: "The sky of Poblet". It includes an astronomy observation and an indoor session, a (gastronomy dinner), an overnight stay including also breakfast, and a guided visit to the monastery. 190 euros for two people, it is not value for money.
The restaurant's dinner, very poor and bad (food, wine,...). Nothing to do with the menu advertised by sternalia, the company who manages the program. Unfriendly staff as well. Hotel room very simple (you as visitor are not a monk), noisy (internal corridor movement) and, no amenities. Difficult wayfinding to parking areas. Astronomy and monastery activities are ok, according to expectations. Unpolluted and great sky views.

For just under 70 euro's we had a simple, crisp clean, quiet room with great countryside views and breakfast. I was really surprised by the value for money. The only negative was the wifi that just did not work.

Room Tip: You can ask for a room with a view of the monastery or a room with a view of te countryside. They are all quiet.
