We were travelling by train, principally, but also by bus at times through Tuscany (mainly). We had spent time in Florence, of course, then took the train to Assisi. From our one night and 2 days there we went to Arezzo. Two nights there and we receive a phone call. Our hotel in Poggibonsi can't put us up. Why? No real satisfactory response so we have to think of something quick. We take a taxi out into the countryside after disembarking from the train, where we are miles from a railway station. We are in Poggibonsi because it is central by train and bus to several Tuscany towns and cities which themselves don't have a railway station. So the 5 nights here now seem in doubt. We were thinking of the Albergo Italia ages ago when we were booking but, of course, there is no lift, and at the time of booking, my Mrs has just had a knee replacement operation.
Well we have no choice now do we? And to be honest her knee is so much better these days. To cut a long story short. These blokes welcomed us with open arms after we were given a lift back into town. They gave us a room that was a bit small and high up for 2 nights but soon found us a better one which was much bigger and better.

It really made the holiday because we then bussed to San Gimignano on the 2nd day then Siena on the 3rd before taking the train to Certaldo on the 4th. All marvellous places to visit. On the Sunday, we spent all day visiting the sites in Poggibonsi itself before leaving the hotel.
The breakfast was adequate, the prices excellent value and the staff all good people, including the cleaners. Right opposite the railway station and bus terminus too.More
