We came here on our honeymoon with the intention of relaxing and little else - which is exactly what we did.
The house is big (almost too big for just the two of us) and on three floors - the kitchen is huge and the terrace outside it great for having breakfast/lunch/dinner on while looking out at the mountains.
Kevan was very helpful offering advice on places to eat and things to see in the area - there's an excellent restaurant no more than two minutes walk from the house.
The roads are a little windy to get there, but that's part of the fun. We'd definitely recommend it and miss the view from the bedroom terrace already.
A hidden gem that is tucked away in the most spectacular location. Stunning and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The farmhouse is beautifully renovated and the pieces of art, sculpture and photographs add to the overall atmosphere. Kevan and Maureen are amazing hosts and went out of their way to welcome us. I cannot recommend La Balconetta more highly.
We stayed here over the UK bank holiday weekend for 4 nights and the place is so peaceful and relaxing. Kevan was a great host and drew us a map the first morning after we arrived so we could walk through the forest and down to the town. Took us about 40 minutes but we were stopping and taking photos of the views. The house is located up in the hills above Bagni di Lucca but it’s a lovely walk down.
The house overlooks a farm but with no livestock, they've a couple of chickens and a cockle-doodle-do who you'll hear in the morning times so it’s definitely a peaceful, rustic rural retreat. What is really handy is there’s a really good restaurant up in the hills as well and it happens to be about 50 yards from the house so we ate there a night, lovely pizza’s and pasta’s. Sorry I cant remember the name of it! The other evenings we went into Bagni Di Lucca for dinner.
Our double bedroom was furnished with lovely wooden furniture that we discovered later in the week, Kevan had made it all himself. We also had the run of a big huge kitchen which was where the continental breakfast was served every morning. There was no timeframe, we could get up when we wanted and the breakfast was laid out for us. Breakfast was croissants and bread for toasting, coffee, cereals, different ones each day. We also had the run of the kitchen so we could cook meals there in the evening times and they had every pot and pan and kitchen utensil I could think of, also herbs and spices you could use no problem.
In the evening times we sat outside and drank wine with Kevan, he was very generous with the vino! There’s also a pizza oven he fires up once a week and the pizza’s were amazing, most of the toppings come from the farm, whatever they’ve got in season/ going spare. It was a fantastic evening. The website says pizza evening is on Saturdays but ours was Monday, it’s basically if they’ve got guests staying a few days or taking out the whole place, they’ll fire up the pizza oven an evening, took 4 hours to heat up.
The only downside for me was they have a cat, I’m not a cat lover but it was one of those cats that comes in when it wants to be fed and spends the rest of the time ignoring the humans . Would recommend having a rental car if you’re visiting, we didn’t and it was still possible to do but would’ve been easier with one.
Title says it all. Stayed for 4 nights and the owner was very welcoming and helpful. The house was very big and well equipped- huge kitchen, outdoor patio area with views over mountains. There are balconies on each floor with amazing views -lovely to wake up to. Would not recommend if you have a difficulty with lots of stairs as the property is spread over 3 floors with the bathroom at the top. The entire house is full of lovely objects, books, photographs and paintings giving it wonderful character, unlike some very bland holiday rentals. As common in Tuscany, you could hear the nearby church clock chiming, but it wasn't too loud and fortunately didn't wake us once asleep. Breakfast was provided each day with fresh bread, lovely pastries, cereals and juice. Convenient to explore the mountain areas around and Lucca and not too far to the coast. As expected with being situated up in the mountains, there are some hairpin bends to drive up. My sat nav couldn't find the address but if you put in 'Granaiola' as the destination, this takes you straight to the car park. Overall, very reasonably priced, full of character and highly recommended.
