We had a great holiday here, thanks to the wonderful hosts, Giuseppe and Anna, who worked hard from start to finish to ensure we had a good time. Giuseppe provided a free shuttle service from and to the airport, introduced us to some amazing value “non-tourist” restaurants. He also offers paid private tours around the island. We took the “Montalbano” tour, which was a full day's drive around the beautiful villages and towns in the south of the island, including Syracuse – excellent value for money.
The apartment itself consists of two large well-equipped rooms plus bathroom on the edge of Riposto, with a front garden. It is a 5 minute walk to the beach, and around a 15 minute stroll to the centre of Riposto, where there are several restaurants, as well the fish market and some small shops. The apartment is in a non-tourist residential area; apart from the adjacent apartment we saw no other tourists; we were living with the locals. It is a 20 minute walk to the station, from which we travelled to Taormina and Catania. We also took a small train that skirts around the edge of Etna. We went by bus to Taormina. Bus and train travel is very cheap and the tourist information centre in Riposto printed off timetables for us. Bikes are provided by Giuseppe free of charge, and we used them to cycle along the coast (mostly on a cycle path) to a nearby fishing village. The holiday was excellent value for money, and we are so grateful to Giuseppe and Anna for their warm welcome and kindness during our stay.
