My wife and I have been multiple times to Grottaferrata the last couple of years, but for an unclear reason we never ended up in restaurant “Da Gastone” and I must admit that was a pitty, because you can eat really well in this place.
We caught up this time and went twice last week. As it was still too cold to use the terrace during the evenings (April), we got seated in one of the elegant internal dining rooms (note they also have a veranda). You’re immediately offered a view on the catch of the day to facilitate your selection of fresh fish. Opposite the fish counter, fresh prosciutto and funghi porcini is being displayed to get you hungry for your meal.
From our two visits I recall the really superb Insalata di polipo con patate (antipasto); the gorgeous spaghetti alle vongole (superfresh, lots of vongole, awesome dish according to my wife!); the sublime pasta scoglie (both primi di mare) and a fantastic grigliate di paste.
The half bottle of Frascati superiore della casa was excellent value for the money (€6!).
Briefly, we’ve eaten very well here. Prices are still reasonable for this excellent quality: we paid €100, resp. €80 for two.
