Grand Hotel Due Golfi
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 31 October 2011

We stayed here from the 14th to the 28th of October 2011. When we arrived late, delayed flight, a meal was waiting for us in our room with a bottle of wine. This displays the level of customer care in the hotel. We were allocated a room overlooking the entrance and requested a room overlooking the bay after the first night. This was money well spent for the upgrade, the views are spectacular. The breakfasts will set you up for the day and the evening meals, although limited in choice, are very tasty. The restaurant staff are exceptional and will offer alternatives if the menu is not suitable. The one area that lets the hotel down is the lounge area, it has fantastic views but no character. We would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Overlooking the bay

We stayed here from the 23rd October 2011 to the 27th October. The room was good, but not exceptional, however we were paying much less than for an equivalent room in a hotel in Sorrento itself. The service in the hotel is probably the best we have ever had - and that's having stayed in many hotels in many countries. All the staff, without exception, went out of their way to make us feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble. Amalia is super-efficient and Sylvie was a delight throughout our stay. Francesca and Giuseppe were also very friendly and efficient and tried very hard to please.
One minor criticism would be the lack of tea or coffee in the room, but Luigi, the barman is very accomodating and we could take coffee up to our room. Some excellent restaurants nearby too. In St Agata the restaurant Da Mimi (near the church) was superb, serving exceptional quality food with great service to match. We also tried Il Borgo, which was a very good meal too. The great thing about Il Borgo is that they offer a free pick-up service to and from the restaurant. Beware the Sita buses - they can often be full if you want to get to Amalfi / Positano from the hotel. It's probably best to go into Sorrento on the free hotel shuttle and then get the Sita bus back past the hotel and on to Amalfi. Overall a great hotel and a beatiful location.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 310. All those with a "view" had a stunning view of the sea and bays. Th...

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon and couldn't have picked a more beautiful and romantic place. The staff couldn't have been more helpfull and the sea view room we had (room 319), gave us a breathtaking view of Sorrento, the bay of naples and mount vesuvius. We didn't actually have lunch or dinner in the hotel, purely because we chose to go into the local village or into Sorrento, but the breakfasts were lovley, and the fresh orange juice a refreshing start to the day. The hotel laid on a shuttle bus which takes you into Sorrento and there is also a bus stop opposite the hotel. All in all, a wonderful place to stay. We will difinately go back in the very near future.

Room Tip: We paid extra for a seaview, and it was worth every penny!

My wife and I stayed here from September 30th to October 7th 2011. We booked directly with the hotel using their website and chose to stay on a bed and breakfast basis. We selected a sea-view room (well worth the extra cost).

We hired a car at Napoli airport and using the directions provided on the Hotel's website we didn't have too much trouble finding the Grand Hotel Due Golfi, although at one point we thought we had taken the wrong road only to find out later that we just hadn't travelled far enough up the Via Nastro Azzuro.

Little tip for any one else driving from the airport, when you arrive at the junction in Sant Agata look to you right as the Hotel is on this junction and we only spotted after we had turned left towards the centre of Sant Agata and then saw the entrance in the rear view mirror behind us.

Our room (106) was very clean and maintained very well by the maid. The views over Sorrento and the bay to Vesuvius were fantastic. Each night we walked into Sant Agata and made good use of the local restaurants. Great food was served in all of them and all things considered not too expensive.

There was plenty to choose from at the breakfast buffet and again the view from the restaurant matched the view from our room. Wonderful fresh orange juice was on offer along with the normal selection of cereals, yoghurt, fruit - tinned and fresh (if you wanted fresh you might have to peel it yourself but that's never been an issue for us). Every morning there was scrambled eggs with a choice of bacon or on the alternate day sausages on offer as well as a fantastic choice of pastries, cakes and Croissant.

We were glad to have the freedom of the car that we had hired but with a bus stop right out side the main gate and the hotel's own shuttle bus I'm sure we would still have had a wonderful holiday staying at this hotel.

The pool was a bit on the cold side but I don't remember anyone saying it was heated so wasn't a problem. Just grin and bear it!

All in all we found this hotel to be in a wonderful quiet location with helpful staff who responded quickly and efficiently to any requests we made.

Our thanks go to the Grand Hotel Due Golfi for our first and hopefully not our last experience of Italy.

Room Tip: Worth the extra for the sea view. One for the view but having seen other reviews it appears that thi...

We booked on the basis of all the great reviews of the Due Golfi and yes we would agree that it is exceptionally clean, the service is very good and the views are superb, there were some downsides. The rooms facing the road were very noisy at night if you left the windows open and we also found the beds were too hard. We would have preferred to see much more fresh fruit, rather than tinned fruit at breakfast, although generally the range of choice was quite good. The evening meal varied in quality, with some excellent dishes, but others lacking in flavour. The gala dinner, however, was simple food, beautifully presented and cooked and we would have wished for this quality all through the week. The wine on offer was very good and not overly expensive.

On balance, we would have been better in Sorrento, as we found there was little entertainment and few facilities in the hotel, so we had to go out every day. We made a lot of use of the shuttle bus and public transport, but the buses passing the hotel were often full and didn't always stop.

One excellent, good value restaurant that we found was the Chanticlere between the cathedral and the Piazza Tasso down the via S M Pieta. Our group of six adults had a two course meal with wine, and beer for 62 Euros.

Room Tip: Definitely choose one with sea view. The stunning view is well worth the extra.
