When we planned our three-week exploration of Ireland (yes, we drove!), we decided to reserve accommodations outside major cities and to use those accommodations as launch pads for day trips. Our first stop after landing in Dublin was Patricia’s lovely apartment in Rathmolyan, outside Trim, about 40 minutes northwest of Dublin. The apartment included a sitting room with additional pullout bed, spacious kitchen and eating area, and bathroom on the first floor, and stairs leading up to an amazing loft library and bedroom. The king bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of drawers and shelves for our belongings. We also appreciated the washer/dryer since we had attempted to pack minimally for the three weeks.
We were delighted with this apartment and grateful for Patricia’s warm welcome. Having been up for 30 hours by the time we arrived, we were beyond thankful to find the kitchen already stocked with fresh eggs, bread, butter, milk, and coffee so that we wouldn’t have to shop that same evening. While we were also thrilled with the B and Bs where we stayed in the next two weeks, Patricia’s apartment was the perfect place for us to recover from jet lag, to make breakfast on our own schedule, and to spread out our maps and refine our itinerary. The apartment was a wonderful home base for the “Ancient East”: nearby Trim, Newgrange, the Boyne Valley, my ancestral town in Co. Cavan, etc.
Patricia herself was a joy to meet. In addition to being wonderfully helpful with suggestions and directions for restaurants and sites, she brought over lovely Irish remedies when she discovered I was battling a cold. We felt as if we were staying at the home of a friend, connecting in a way that allowed for excellent, in-depth conversations. Patricia was our first experience of warm-hearted Irish hospitality, and we will never forget her kindness. We would absolutely stay in this apartment again! Thank you, Trish!
Warm, spacious, bright and comfortable. We loved the quiet away from town, but close enough to be convenient. Patricia's hospitality is unmatched. We felt like we were visiting friends.
What a fantastic place for our weekend stay. The owner, Patricia, was friendly and helpful and the apartment was lovely. There was plenty of space, a cosy living room, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable king-size bed. The location is perfect for visiting the local attractions including Trim Castle. The log burner in the living room would be great for winter visits but the good weather meant we could sit in the beautiful garden and take advantage of the views. I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay if you are looking for something a bit different in this area.
