24 of us on tour stayed one night here at a hotel that seems in the middle of no where. While my room was fine my friends didn't have as nice an experience. Their a/c was not working and their room was unbearably hot, but no one seemed inclined to help them. It was their worst night's sleep of the tour. The pool area and the lookout spot are charming.

Nice hotel with all the amenities, great breakfast buffet, and amazing location! The staff was excellent and made our stay very pleasant. Very friendly and ready to help and give advice.
Everything I would expect from a quality hotel.

The room and the premises were just great! Nice staff. We had the opportunity to play with snow! The restaurant "La Veranda" has a spectacular view!! Reasonable prices for the services offered. I used the Spa and i am happy about it!

We visited the hotel between Christmas and new year. We had booked a Junior Suite, the ones with pool view from ground floor level. There is a big disadvantage with those suites. They are noisy due to the breakfast/dining room being right above them. Every chair that is moved can be heard right above your head due to poor sound insulation. The noise starts at ~7:00 am (breakfast opens at 8) and can take place in the evening up to 11 pm. It is quite disturbing and does not fit the definition of "suite" for such a hotel neither the price in the range of ~200 Euro per night.
Also I did not like the compulsory minimum 3 days booking imposed.

Room Tip: Junior Suites are noisy due to dining room right above. Chairs make a lot of noise when moving around at the floor above.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights while participating in an ultrarunning race, the Ultra Trail Pelion. This was the headquarters for the race where all the registration and briefing took place, so it was the most convenient place to stay, in our opinion.

You can tell that the hotel is rather old from the carpet and fittings in the rooms. However, while the hotel maybe lacking in sophistication and modernity in terms of design, it excels in almost every other aspect. Its location is very central in Portaria, making it a very convenient base to explore the rest of Pelion. The view from its private square next to the carpark over the city of Volos was astounding – we caught some pretty amazing sunsets while we were there.

The customer service was first-class – from the moment we stepped through the entrance, we were greeted by happy, friendly and smiling staff, all of whom can speak fluent English. The décor of the general area of the hotel was warm and cosy. As we were there in early December (and after an unusual snow storm), fire was lit at the fireplace at the common lounge/café/bar, giving it a very homely atmosphere, with plenty of comfortable seats.

Breakfast was varied and a mix of local and continental (warm and cold). We had buffet over the weekend but come Monday morning, we were the only guests left and were served a variety of food at our table instead. Again, we find the staff to be very efficient and friendly.

Our double room faces the entrance, but we were not disturbed by any noise of cars from the outside. Our bed was very comfortable, clean towels and basic toiletries were provided in the bathroom, which also has a hairdryer. Our only complaint is the taps (both the shower and the sink). It took quite a while for us to figure out how to adjust the right temperature of water!!! We would have preferred Xenia to stick to the old-fashioned ones.

Unlike another hotel where we have stayed at in Portaria earlier in October (which we have also written a review), Xenia understands the different needs of their guests and are not stingy with their provisions. There was a heater in the room where we can switch on and off whenever we want, unlike most hotels, that only provide central heating to rooms, which at most of the time, is not switched on at all or only switched on for a few hours.

So, overall, our stay experience at Xenia was a very positive one. The rates we paid for such a central location in Portaria and its standard of services and comfort, was very reasonable. We have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful place to others and we look forward to our next trip to Pelion so that we can stay there again.
