Alvor ferrias Apartments are 3 star basic tourist accommodation. - Fact - That said they are perfectly fine if you keep in mind the price you have paid. I have used these apartments (Reception side) on three separate occasions , once with kids, again with friends and recently (Oct 11) just as a couple taking a late break. On each occasion I found the apartments of a high standard in terms of cleanliness, with plenty of space to move around in and well enough equipped to meet basic holiday needs. In my opinion these apartments offer great value for any family with young children or as a base for sightseeing for couples. Yes there no lifts, and the balcony's are small, at busy times it can be noisy due to suitcases being dragged across hallways or people returning from a night out but it comes back to the old adage you pay for what you get.If you need 5* luxury and people moving silently about then pay for it.

The Alvor ferrias are well located if you are of normal fitness and don't mind a 10 minute stroll downhill into Alvor Town, if walking uphill is a difficulty then get a taxi back for 3.80 euro at night time. The pool area can be noisy due to happy kids splashing about, (get over it!) It also can get quite hot, due to the the fact that on the reception side of the complex the pool area is hard surfaced but if you are inclined you can cross over to the other side of the complex where the pool area is grass so either way you're sorted. All in all the Alvor ferrias are fine, ticking most of the boxes for families and couples alike. Alvor itself is a beautiful place to visit and stay and very far removed from other 'hony tonk' over commercialised towns, the beach is superb, there is a fantastic board walk that takes you right down to the mouth of the harbour looking across at Lagos and back around the sand dunes and marshes. At night time there is a terrific selection of bars and restaurants to suite every taste and pocket and in fact if you are restricted by small ones, there is always the bar back at the complex which is family friendly. What more could you ask for.

Room Tip: Ask for a west facing apartment to take advantage of evening sun.

I went to the Alvorferias on the 1st of sept 2011 and i have only decided to write my review now because i feel some of the comments made are very unfair. As we are all entitled to our own opinion I will not go on about things but I personally feel this Hotel is FAB!! It was lovely, spacious and clean, a great base to start your holiday/ does what it says on the tin :) The pools are amazing and CLEAN!! my children loved every minute. The on site shop is well stocked / fair priced and the wildlife which as not been mentioned at the hotel was fascinating. We saw tiny, harmless lizards/geckos in and around the gardens and beautiful birds in the palm trees, my kids were mesmerized!
The staff were always friendly and helpful and as we were half board we ate at the restaurant every morning and evening and i seriously have nothing bad to say about the food. There is plenty to choose from and they always had chicken nuggets/ pizza and chips everyday if the children are not sure about trying new food.
We walked to the beach and town everyday, this wasn't a problem because we love walking and its great exercise for every1 but seriously it only takes 15mins that's nothing is it!! and it is the cleanest beach i have ever seen! Golden sands and clear sea ahhh lovely lol.
To be honest i wasn't sleeping well before i went to Portugal but i can honestly say after all the walking and fresh air i had the best 7 nights sleep of my life and i felt great!!
Please go to this hotel and ignore the silly pics of paint peeling off and a rip in a bit of blue material because if you see the real beauty of this place you wouldn't even notice any of those things in the first place. FACT!

After reading some reviews we started to feel a little apprehensive, but when we got to our hotel we were very surprised. I went SC with my husband, It took about 2 hours to get from the airport after all the other drop offs but it was a nice way to see a bit more of the area so that didn't worry us at all. We were checked in within minutes by Carlos who was very friendly, he even helped two older ladies that were on the coach with us up to their room carrying their suitcases for them which was nice of him. When we got inside the apartment (we were on top of the reception overlooking the pool) we instantly loved it. Yes some people have said the decor and furniture are a bit outdated but that just added to the experience of being in another country and gave the place a more comfy and homey atmosphere. The hotel in all of it's descriptions never mentions anything about being more than a 3 star complex so I can't see where some people get the idea that they're going to get a 5 star deal and then complain when they don't. The supermarket was always well stocked and the staff there always friendly. We went to the bar every night after going out for food and the only reason for that was Ricardo. He is a great guy who spoke to us as if he'd known us forever, very friendly, always with a smile on his face and just a top guy. Throughout our stay there were people leaving who made a point of saying goodbye to him, kids as much as adults.
We didn't get any noise at all from people coming and going but that could have been because we were there when it was a bit quieter, and more adults than teenagers and children running around and shouting.
Also complaints about location and distance to town and beach. The beach is 1.4km from the complex, the hotel runs a bus 9:30, 12:30 and 4:30 for about 1 and a half euros return. We walked there and back though and with a leisurely pace it took between 12-15 minutes.
The beach is beautiful and well worth the walk if you decide to walk to it. If you walk along to the left you'll come across some beautiful coves where you can get a nice quiet spot and just relax.
The town is about 1000 metres, again at a leisurely pace it took us between 8-10 minutes. Yes there's a hill but so what, you're on holiday, enjoy.
We didn't eat at the hotel because we liked to go out and try different places but we spoke to a few couples who were half board and didn't have a bad word to say about the food at all.
The local people who ran the shops and bars were very friendly, and always came to have a chat with us (Jose from Paddys Bar) Even though it's only a small fishing village there is a huge amount going on, different cultured restaurants, an irish corner with a few irish bars that have live music and karaoke every night, lots of shops and only a short bus ride away from Portmau where they have a big shopping complex with 40 shoe shops.
Our meals in the evening for the two of us for a three course meal ranged between 20 and 30 euros including drinks, and they are not skimpy on their portions either, you get more than what you pay for.
We are already making plans to go back again next year with our family, and know they will love it just as much as we did.

Have to say after reading some of the reviews on trip advisor was a bit apprehensive about booking these apartments but should really not have worried. Yes they are a bit out of the town, about 10 minutes walk to town and 10 minutes to beach, yes they are a bit worn but they are three star. We had a room facing the supermarket and could not fault its location. It overlooked some wasteground but the view to the town was amazing especially at sunset. My husband and I are only back after 5 days, we went self catering which was no problem at all. The kettle is one of the ones which you have to boil on a ring, so if you want tea or coffee the just put it on while you are doing something else, don't fill it too much as you will be waiting forever. There is no toaster in the room, if you really want one you can hire from reception, but the croissants are delish so we did not bother. There is no hairdryer in the room ladies, so bring your own, we had bought one for £5 out of Argos and so far it has beeen great. We had no probems with noise at all, maybe the odd barking dog, grasshoppers at night time but not a problem. We ate at the apartments twice for lunch and no complaints, staff were really nice to us. The only thing is the sink in the bathroom seems to take for ever to drain but as I say they are three star apartments and you get what you pay for. One thing I do not agree with is charing 1 Euro for a mat for your sunbed, I know it isnot much, but a family there for two weeks this would certainly add up and they are not that comfortable. Rooms were kept clean and we had our towels changed once in the five days which isn't too bad. Meant to say we had a studio apartments which was a great size for the two of us. Alvor is a beautiful resort, not full of drunks etc, this is our third time in Alvor and we still have not ate in all the restaurants I would recommend it to anyone. Do go ot the beach it is breathtaking, long strip of sand and few wee bays, you can hire two sunbeds and an umbrella for 10E per day for alterantively you can throw your towel on the sand and it won;t cost you a penny.

Room Tip: Try to get the block facing the supermarket, seem to be quieter also looking out onto the waste grou...
