“Would not go here again.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2011

We went to Clube Alvorferias on the 13th Sept. 2011. We had a self-catering apartment with half board. The apartment was quite nice, and it was clean. A very small balcony that you could just sit on and very dark inside. There are no lifts and consequently suitcases have to be carried up the stairs and there was no help from staff. Breakfast was adequate but was the same every day and consisted of beans, scrambled egg, hard fried eggs, tomatoes, cheese and ham. This did not vary at all. However, evening meals were varied and very nice. Evening entertainment (if you can call it such) was very poor. The situation of these apartments was not suitable for those who cannot walk as the beach and old town is a fair walk and uphill on the way back.
One other point I would mention is that at this time there were a lot of flies and the restaurant did not have a fly "zapper" and although all the food was covered, at the table it was very annoying..

I went private to these apartments so no Rep for myself and my partner which we were happy about! Absolutely LOVED the apartment itself, it was so big with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. And we didnt use the air con once during the week. We went in Sept and the locals said we were very lucky to have 30 degree weather all week! We just opened the windows and a lovely breeze blew through the apartment :)
The pool was lovely only it was a bit chaotic, there were loads of British families there who seemed more happy to get p*ssed and let their kids run a muck. I wanted to be able to relax and have a quiet snooze by the pool but that didnt happen once with our fellow guests.
All in all I would 100% recommend these apartments and the area is brilliant lots of places for food/drink. Loads of Irish pubs around for all my fellow Irish who are into a bit of banter and a sing song. One word of advice: Dont bother trying to hail a taxi - they dont stop! There is a taxi rank near the tourist shops just down the road from the apartments. Also there is one man who works the reception at night with glasses - Most unhelpful man in the complex. He seems to think it's a chore to be on lates. Dont expect much help from him!!

Room Tip: I was in a room right beside the shop/supermarket. Very handy! And the pool is literally a 2 min wal...

Went here in September 2011 with my partner and our two-year-old son, after a two hour transfer(horrible) from Faro had to wait in reception behind big queue of moaning people, Didnt look good. Anyway got to our room and I must say we were pleased with how big it was and the fact we had a full kitchen with complete crockery, pots&pans etc despite being half-board. Bedroom was large, ditto living room, so no complaints there.
Half-board food-ok, not fantastic some nights better than others, breakfast was good though.
Staff here are ok, some a bit sullen but generally they are fine, thanks to maintenance team for fixing our lights(twice)very prompt.
We luckily were reception side of that bridge, some people with kids&buggies were not, a bit unfair I think.
The pool area-ahh nice big pool, very deep in place so watch the non-swimmers, one grumble-kids(and big kids)jumping off that bridge and at least once landing on someone swimming below. Not good the hotel should say something before someone gets crippled, despite all the no diving signs plenty of people were doing so, at least once I had to warn my other half not to swim under the bridge due to some 6 ft 20 stone teenager bombing into the water without any regard for anyone else.
One warning to people with kids in particualr-the hot water in the bathroom-please please please take care when running baths or showers the hot water is so hot it will take your skin off, run the cold first to avoid any nasty injuries.
Alvor is a lovely little spot I would return, I recommend this to families, just look after the kids round the pool and dont be like most of the guests either sleeping or getting drunk while the kids play.
Have a good stay.

Room Tip: Reception side of bridge if you have babies and buggies or if elderly.

Read a lot of quite bad reviews for this place and after actually staying here I wonder just exactly what folk expect when they pay for a budget holiday! Ok, the place is adequate, you have a supermarket on site, a bar and restaurant/pool bar/snack bar, 2 pools and a small childrens play area. There is a club house for entertainment but cannot comment as we never went in there! There was activities arranged during the day like football and table tennis but no one showed up to take part much to my hubby's dissapointment! First things first. You can see this was a 3 star accommodation when it first opened, however time had taken it's toll and it is getting very tired looking, but it is in fair condition and this reflects in the price you pay to stay here! The reception staff were efficient and friendly on arrival. You had to pay deposits for air con and tv remotes 50 euros for the week and we got back 35 euros on check out. The apartment was spacious, we had a 2 bedroom apartment with a bathroom and seperate kitchen and lounge area. The furniture was a little tired and worn but served it's purppose and the beds were fairly comfortable. The bathroom was a full size bath and over bath shower with sink bidet and loo. The tiles were cracked and a little grubby looking but it was the age of the place, it was clean though! The kitchen was fairly big, we bought a can opener and left it there as the one in the drawer was useless so a tip would be take your own or buy one! We did not have a frying pan but had other pans and we coped ok. There was a full size fridge with small freezer compartment. Microwave and an old fashioned whistling kettle which was a novalty as my daughter had never seen one before lol. The full size oven was electric with a gas hob and was brilliant, no waiting around for ages for a kettle to boil like we have experienced in some apartments in the past! The whole apartment was tended by the maids every other day. We had everything we needed really and I am sure you could cook a meal no problem, but we ate out every evening so just used the kitchen for breakfast and lunch. The on site supermarket is quite expensive, there is a new large supermarket which has opened up which is a ten min walk from the bottom of alvor (roundabout), dolce something or other it is called! Ali super is quite expensive to shop in so it is worth the trip up to the new shopping centre and you can get a taxi back if you ask them they will ring one for you! 5 litre bottled water 39 cents, pack of 6 cornetto ice creams 1.39 euro, eggs 95 cents! Drink of beer (large) from bar in complex 2.70 euro, cheese and ham toastie approx 4 euro. The dining area of restaurant/ bar is fairly small which hosts the breakfast and evening meal if you opt for that option. They seem to serve a small selection buffet style if you are on half board and host a bbq once a week. Plenty of sun beds and you can pay 1 euro to hire a padded matt for them each day which was comfy. The pool area had quite a lot of families around it when we arrived which surprised us considering kids had already gone back to school after the summer holidays! Only gripe was both swimming pools have walk over bridges across them (pretty senseless to me but hey ho) and although there are large clearly written signs saying NOT TO JUMP OFF THE BRIDGE into the pool, there were a lot of kids and adults doing the opposite! This was a problem initially and spolied the experience of swimming in the pool as it was unsafe to do so for fear of having one of them jump on you from the bridge! But thankfully they left a couple of days after we arrived and you then could enjoy the pool. The pool was cleaned daily and kept in good repair! No slime or scum ever seen on the pool surface during our stay! We have been to Alvor before but this was our first time at this complex and would go again so it cannot be that BAD! It is a ten minute walk down hill into Alvor, where there are lot's of bars and restaurants to choose from. Bouganvilla, Georgettes, Ruccula and Os Marifadas are really good places to eat out but booking is advisable! Taxi back up to the complex was approx 5 euro but you could walk it in about 20 minutes (up hill). Weather was brilliant for this time of year averaging around 30 -35 degrees, we usually go in september and have enjoyed good weather of apporx 27 degrees so this year it was very good. Nightlife is pretty low key, dont expect discos and loud dance music blearing! Great for couples and older adults but little going on for teens and young kids really. I suppose it depends on what your use to, we love it so return year after year! Lagos is a nice day out, you can get the bus from Alvor direct. My daughter went to ZooMarine and loved it! Shop around for trips/water parks etc to get the best bargains. Hotel and rep run trips are usually more expensive. Average steak meal 10 euro, average beer (large) 2.50 euro. Jug if Sangria 9 euro. Chill out bar and Cactas 2 bar both offer 1 euro pint beers and low priced cocktails :)

Room Tip: Rooms over the bridge are quieter. Ask for a low floor if you have mobility problems as there is no...

We travelled in a group of 5 in July. We arrived early in the morning, around 10ish and obviously the apartments weren't ready. They told us 12 o'clock and bang on 12 we got our keys. These are the biggest 1 bed apartments we have ever stayed in, plenty of room for 2 adults and 1 child. There was air-conditioning available to hire but we found even though it was scorching while we were there, if the doors at each end of the apartment were open, a lovely breeze went through the place. Great for families, 10 min walk to the town, 15/20 mins to the beach. What a beach, absolutely gorgeous. Plenty of places to eat, all top quality. I would highly recommend these apartments to anyone.
