A very good pool and friendly service. The rooms are a bit special with some boasting vast circular jacuzzis in the bedrooms with circular beds! Not cheap but welcome in the summer heat. Decent breakfasts. Needs professionalism but welcome in the Anghiari hotel desert in summer.

Stayed: July 2016

Get away from the crowds in Tuscany by staying at Cardo Resort just a km. outside Anghiari, an official Slowcity Italy. The hosts are lovely, the rooms spacious and comfortable, the pool much needed after a hot day in the Tuscan sun. There is a masseuse on call and our hosts also arranged for bikes to be dropped off and picked up at the B&B so we could enjoy a day of biking around Sansepolcro. A very relaxing 3 days!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the valley-what a view!

Excellent place to stay, warm welcome from Maria pia who was always ready to assist or help in any way. Pool was excellent. We were a family of six, included in our holiday was a cooking course which we arranged prior to visiting, Maria pia helped more than needed, which was very appreciated. Would definitely recommend.

Three days holiday in this place during the current heatwave in Italy were absolute bliss. Maria Pia and Franco were warm and helpful hosts, their limited English making our time there even more authentic in a Tuscan paradise of bucolic beauty. Comfort was excellent, breakfast a delight on the terrace, the pool was our haven during the day! We decided not to sightsee as it was so hot and the pool was the best place to be. Better than any overcrowded seasisde resort! If you book, you can have a candlelight dinner on the terrace, very romantic and lunch can be a salad if you feel like it, in the cool of the breakfast room whch in winter must be terrific with the fireplace. We didn't have one, but massages are also available. We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: All are quiet, ours was just a few feet from the pool, Bosso, excellent bed and good bathroom too.

I'll never forget my first glimpse of Il Cardo. As I turned down a country lane bordered by vineyards and sunflower fields, I saw a lovely ancient farmhouse nestled in a hamlet from a thousand years ago, with a dreamy vista of the Sovara Valley beyond. I knew in an instant I had found a corner of paradise in Tuscany. A warm welcome from Il Cardo's owner, Maria Pia - and the beginning of a wonderful friendship - awaited me. I've been back many times. I've brought friends and have recommended Il Cardo to others, knowing they, too, will experience the soul-stirring beauty of Tuscany here. The farmhouse has been beautifully renovated, preserving its ancient character. Il Cardo has recently added new rooms and suites that feature such amenities as whirlpool hot tubs, fireplaces and kitchen facilities. Guests take a complimentary breakfast in the charming dining room or, in warmer weather, on the terraces with gorgeous views. Maria Pia's dinners and cooking classes (pre-booking necessary, at additional cost) are not to be missed. Il Cardo offers a lovely sun-bathed pool, spa services and free wi-fi. Maria Pia is a gracious hostess who is happy to suggest itineraries suited to your interests, including wine-tasting, hiking, biking and horseback riding. Il Cardo is a few minutes by car from the ancient hill town of Anghiari, one of Italy's most picturesque villages where the legacy of Old World artistry is still very much alive. Just ask Maria Pia - she knows many of the local artisans. It's best to visit this area by car to fully enjoy the magnificent scenery that inspired Renaissance painters centuries ago.
