Donalds and Emanuels backyard is the beacon that shines in the ourskirts of the busy city center of Naoussa. Away from the overcrowded catacombs of tourist shops and shouting restaurant owners. This is the french/mediterranean patch that let's you rest and enjoy all the five senses.
The groundwork is simple. Outside is surronded by trees with hanging light bulbs letting the white gravel sparkle like a stars on a night sky. Tonight it's not that busy. But even though the layout of the tables allows you to come in large company or in pair for a private table in the back.
The menu is small but enough. Donald greets us gently with an gazpacho appetizer which is quite plain in taste and perhaps would have been better if more reduced. Still it's fresh and the evening has just begun.
We have the three different cuts of fish along with some champagne which is generously given. The fresh tuna is soft as silk and the satisfaction is there. Everybody stops talking and a brief moment of silence is prominent.
Our next waiter is silent and nervous. Perhaps his first week on the job but he's being well taken care of by Donald who overlooks everything wanting the night to be as we expect.
The seared tuna steak has arrived and it's cooked to perfection. On a bed of creamy rissoni pasta topped with capers and vinigrette gives you a savory well executed dish. The only thing to ask for is something crunchy for variation of texture.
The white chardonnay recomended is enjoyable but the red wine locally produced is more interesting. It's well balanced and high on tannins almost like an organic wine from Sicily. No mineral taste but clean earthy and almost sparkling in texture.
We finish of the evening with chocolate mousse along with berries and mint. The mousse and the mint together is fresh yet sweet and bitter. It makes you happy to notice the love in every dish. On the way home there's a strong feeling of satisfaction.
