This is a busy restaurant with a grill menu, but there are also other dishes. The wine list includes local wines.

The service and food were good (i.e., what is to be expected in an average French bistro). The outside atmosphere is pleasant but inside is a bit stuffy so plan on going when the weather is nice. There is ample free parking behind the restaurant. Our kids really like the place. The food portions are well sized (almost American sized portions).

Have visited here many times over the years. Food consistently well prepared, especially the omelets and salads. Friendly service and good value.

During our 2 weeks stay in the Provence in a village next to Baumes, we have been at Lou Castelet 3 times (that says already something...). It's not haute cuisine, but decent bistro food for a good price on a nice location. Service was good and food served quickly which is what we need with 2 young kids. The children's menu is just below 10 euro: their 'crispy pollack' is very tasty (I'd say it's home made as it doesn't taste or look like any commercial fish stick), anyway our kids loved it and had it 3 times, followed by a scoop of ice cream as dessert. For the adults, you can eat a la carte or there are 2 menu options either you go for 3 courses or 2 courses (starter + main or main + dessert). The salads are big, fresh and tasty and their desserts yummy although I find their 'cafe gourmand' overpriced (9 euro for a small shot of coffee and a few sweets, all good and tasty but expensive). Their risotto with the muscat wine of Baumes is very nice, the portion looks small but trust me it's sufficient.Their burger is a modern version: no typical burger bun but a nice focaccia type bun and they add sauce bearnaise (my favorite) and sun dried tomatoes. Very tasty!! They also have an extensive list of ice coupes, but I need to go back to taste those :-)
So if you are looking for a fine, French cuisine, then this is not your place to go however if you are good with a quick bite of decent and tasty grilled/bistro food then this is your place!

Have never written a poor review before - but this cafe deserves one!! We stopped on a hot day and asked for an 'orange presse' with ice. We have been enjoying these all through our 2 months in Provence - refreshing, cold, quite large and until today costing from 1.3 euros to 3.5 euros. Naively we did not ask the price - we were astonished to be presented with two half full glasses of watered down juice - costing 5.90 euros each!! We were very unhappy and spoke to a staff member who simply shrugged - couldnt have cared less!! Be warned - this cafe is poor value and overpriced!!! Avoid at all costs!!!
