Tucked away in a far-flung corner of Jura, the restaurant is renowned for Jeunet's light, contemporary cuisine which is filled with flavours from yesteryear. Best known for using traditional ingredients in exceptional ways, Jeunet's signature dishes include foie gras poached in Macvin caramel; buttered snails cooked in liquorice flavoured bouillon; and warm chocolate soup flavoured with pine bark. The rustic dining room ��� decorated with colourful canvases and an open Franche-Comt�� fireplace - exudes an atmosphere of hushed awe, and this divine establishment is guaranteed to impress even the most spoiled gourmands.

We had dinner at La Maison Jeunet on a Sunday evening during an extended weekend focused on the discovery of the Jura wines. La Maison Jeunet is an institution in Arbois and has been operating for decades. Jean-Paul Jeunet actually recently gave up the lead to a new chef, not unknown in the house though, Steven Naessens. There were 2 tasting menus. A 6 course menu at 120€ and a 8 course menu at 150€. We went for the 6 course menu. The restaurant has one Michelin star and that calls for steeper price. However I consider that the quality of the food did not quite justify to pay 120€ without wines. The menu was excellent of course but there were a few minor details here and there that you just do not forgive at this price level. Two of the first three dishes were slow cooked white fishes at low temperature. The dishes were excellent overall due to the extreme tastiness of the vegetables and the seasoning. However both fished lacked some taste despite the great texture given by the cooking process. Frog legs were served between the two fishes and had a similar problem of comparatively neutral meat with deliciously potent vegetables and seasoning. The lamb was to die for. It was a perfectly balanced dish that I can only praise. We finished with cheese and a terrific dessert plate. The restaurant actually has a pastry chef. You can taste that for sure. What really transformed the evening and made me forget the above mentioned critics was the sommelier. We did not want to go for a bottle and asked him to select 3 glasses to accompany our meal. He came back with an excellent selection which not only beautifully paired with the courses but also gave us great insights in the local wine offer. Throughout the dinner, the sommelier made himself available to extensively answer our questions on the Jura vineyards. I ordered a fourth glass to go with the cheese. He recommended a vin jaune but instead of bringing one glass he brought two half-glasses of vin jaune from the same vintage but from different terroirs so that I could compare them. We had an unforgettable experience that night!

We had a lovely dinner here.The service is great, it is really like watching a ballet performance. Don't expect a quick dinner here, Lovely dishes, which present local Jura specialities.

Everything was delicious here, the most memorable item for me being the "marcassin" (juvenile wild boar) delicately blended with herbs. The distinctive local "vin jaune" is a treat in such expert hands, as was the Ploussard red "La Chamade" 2008 from Philippe Bornard in the neighboring village of Pupillin. The decor successfully blends rustic and elegant. Good service.

We were a group of 8 friends who visited on a Thusday. The restaurant was not full by far and plenty of staff present. However all through the meal, they seemed to be a bit all over the place and service was not coordinated like one would expect.

We all had the same 6 course menu and service was agreeable and at a good pace. The meal was reasonably well put together, even if it drifted in a rather heavy direction.

After some amouse bouche we had a good piece of smoked duck to start. Well seved and presented.
Next a beef consomme with a little foie gras and cheese. A good, but rather heavy dish.
Following ws a small dish of young wild boar. Good, but yet again rather heavy.
Lastly there was a course based on rabbit. Well presented, but again on the heavy side.
Very good cheeses were served next from a large trolley-selection.
Dessert was a cooked pear with marmalade of Orange and some sorbet. Tasty but at this stage we were getting rather full, even if we are grown men.
To finish off - petit fours.

All was fine until course 3 or 4 when a long hair appeared in a dish. Not what one expects. an apolgy from the kitchen was received, but is that enough at 2 star level...

Clearing of plates were at times a bit haphazard and not too efficient.

The abolutely best was the help of the sommelier in choosing wines to match each dish. Very good job done

This is an outstanding restaurant combining tradition and innovation.It shows off the Jura region to best effect. The wine list is excellent.
