We stayed at this lovely gite for 10 days and would have loved to stay longer. It is situated in a beautiful quiet setting about 5 minutes from the beautiful town of Questembert in southern Brittany. We fell in love with this area and were fortunate to have great weather too. The house was more than satisfactory with a well equipped kitchen and nice outdoor area for eating out and a grass area for the children to play on. Anne was very helpful and supplied us with a list of all the local markets. We only visited Questembert on the Monday morning- great market, you could buy anything you would possibly need. If returning to this area we would definitely stay here again.
A five / six hour leisurely drive from Calais, through the little village of Questembert, through the little hamlet of Saint Suzanne, and on to the farm house of the Fleury's.
Anne met us at the farm house, and together we drove on to the Gite, which sits on the farmland, approximately 1 kilometer from the farm house. The Gite is beautifully isolated. Anne's son stays in a farm house next door - but he is out from early morning until evening- and his wife at work during the day. The Gite benefits from a beautiful secluded garden, surrounded by Plum, Peach, Brambles, Raspberrys and cows. Evoir, the Lab lives next door but is a regular visitor to the garden, but is totally trained not to go into the house.
There is a private parking space outside the Gite, inside the fence; and small farm roads for walks at your leisure. Our daughter ran regularly each evening, and perhaps encountered a car once. A car is required to travel around the area.
The facilities in the house are excellent - a fully equipped kitchen, with dining area, and dishwasher, and washing machine. A TV and seated area. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a beautifully fitted Shower room / bath room.
All upstairs rooms have velux windows with shades - so the rooms can be aired and kept shaded at the same time.
Because of the location of the farmhouse- the garden is ideal for star gazing of an evening. And Bat watching, a lizard watching and moth watching :-)
The nearest supermarket is approximately 8 km away, and wonderfully stocked with all sorts of necessities, and Brittany delicacies. The nearest village Questembert has two weekly markets. One on a Monday Morning, and one on a Wednesday Evening. The market is held under the "Halls", A roofed meeting area built in 1550. Beautiful place to visit.
There are a range of places within close range to visit - Rocheford en Terre, La Roche Bernard, The Parc Prehisotoiric, The Branfrere Animal Park, Carnac with it's stones, the Aquarium at Le Croisic.
The nearest "big" town, Redon, has a train station, and of course journies farther afield can be made from there, and I can only complement the services of the Station Guards there who helped plan and organise our Daughter's trip to Rouen.
Anne left us with her contact details and an offer to drop by on the farm if we so wished. She dropped more bin bags off for us, and answered any questions we had via email very quickly.
When she arrived for our check out, I think she was delighted to see us so rested and tanned!
It was a great holiday, and I have no hesitation in recommending.
