We are a young American couple in our early 30s and we were looking to do something off the beaten path when we traveled to Austria, we could not have been more thrilled with choosing to visit Styria and choosing to stay at Thermenhotel Emmaquelle! From the moment you arrive, the family makes you feel like you are at home. Robert speaks impeccable English and is a true master of hospitality! We enjoyed the great quality high speed internet, the wonderful spa and sauna and the delicious foood at Emmanuelle for around 5 days. We made use of the complementary riding bikes to explore the beautiful nearby countryside and Robert gave us amazing directions to visit some of the nearby wineries. The highlight of the trip was when Robert's family organized an excursion to their family homestead and invited us all for delicious wine (grown right there), traditional styrian meats and cheeses and generous amounts of food, as well as a traditional styrian musical accompaniment! It was absolutely the highlight of our trip to Austria! We were delighted to receive a thoughtful Christmas card and pictures from our summer trip months later. We would 10000% recommend this place to all our friends!

First of all a big thank you to Mr. Robert who is the owner and host of this family owned Hotel.

I went to visit friends of my wife in Austria.
My wife and I tried to book in advance at an other hotel at Therme Loiperdorf but we were unable to get a quick response especially since we are not very fluent in german and send our request in english.
After we experienced those challenges my wife asked some of her friends where to stay and they recommended us to Hotel Emmaquelle which is located in a lovely little typical Austrian town called Bad Gleichenberg.
We sent an email requesting a reservation and received a prompt response in English! When we arrived we were greeted by the owner and he ensured that our stay was an unforgettable experience. Amenities included luxurious rooms, unique spa complex which included an underground connection to the thermal spa. The masseuse at the hotel spa was very relaxing.
The food was first class and prepared with fresh ingredients and to perfection.
The hotel is located close to a historical park and we enjoyed a bicycle ride with electrical bicycles provided by the hotel.
We will recommend this hotel to all of our friends and will be back next year with my family.

The Emmaquelle Thermal Hotel at Bad Gleichenberg in Styria is a family-run hotel that specialises in the personal touch which larger hotels cannot offer. Competition in the thermal spa trade is tough in Austria, especially throughout Burgenland and Styria and so the very welcoming Tropper-Scheer family who took over the hotel in 1976 take that extra step to have you stay with them. Just across the road is a large new modern hotel where the many saunas and thermal pools are located. But you have full access from the Emmaquelle via an underground tunnel.

The meals are also special, using local produce only. We enjoyed the four-course dinner as family members wander through the dining room making sure that everything is OK. If you happen to be there on your birthday they fuss, even secretly baking a cake which is presented to you at the table. On checking out my wife was given a bag of locally-grown apples. As the only English-speakers at the hotel, it was nice to see the daily information sheet of events and weather on our table at breakfast was printed in English.

There are many packages and prices, such as half board for three nights with three days of access to the pools and saunas for €236 per person, or €299 for four nights and three days of access. We found an online special: €159 each for two nights with half board and full access.

As Australians there was the added bonus of being in Bad Gleichenberg in November. The beautiful park of ancient trees across the road was at its peak and just 200 metres up the hill was the start of a walking trail through the woods which were in dazzling colours.
