We stayed on the houseboat on the backwaters off Tarkali. The weather was pleasant and the waters were calm and quiet. Each day, the houseboat would take a long, slow trip up & down the length of the backwaters. We would see plenty of birds and some fish during this time. Since it took at least 2-3 hours for each trip, we could also see the tides uncovering sandbars right in the middle of the backwaters. The beach was just 2 mins walk across the other side once we got off the boat. One of the cleanest and quietest ones I have seen in a long time. Plenty of starfish, molluscs on the beach (alive i.e.) to see.
The staff in the houseboat were courteous and very helpful. The food was good and as per the local cuisine.
Downside: The two cabins on the boat are identical sizes and comfortable for two people. We were three adults and it was a little cramped for space. Motorboats carrying tourists from the other resorts would continuously zoom up and down, especially in the mornings. Loud & spewing diesel fumes.
Overall, a good experience and quite exciting to live on a houseboatMore
