We stayed two nights at Splendid Palace Hotel together with my daughter and her husband, who were visiting us on their annual vacation period. Actually, I am from Istanbul but we had never stayed at this hotel before. What a nice hotel, not only building, rooms and service areas like bar and breakfast room and the front terrace, but also the service was excellent. The hotel has a nice-sized pool at the back garden, too. We had dinner one night at the hotel and the menu and the quality of the food was very satisfactory. We enjoyed it so much that we promised ourselves to return before the summer ends for another short stay.

Room Tip: Sea front rooms has a small balconyand beautiful panaroma of Marmara Sea.

Splendid Hotel was a beautiful historical monument located five minutes walk to the island's port. The hotel interiors were charming. Our "deluxe corner room with seaview" had beautiful views over the port and Marmara Sea. The mini bar placed beside the bed was not decorative. There was only one bottle of water in our double room. The bathroom was small and the amenities were low quality. There was an average swimming pool located in the backyard. The breakfast was average. I found that the hotel was a bit overpriced only due to its location and its charming building.

Room Tip: Deluxe corner room with seaview

We stayed there with my family. Their staff were very bad. They dont have any information about hotel. Also, they acted very bad. They were not welcome people. Also, they tried to charge additional fee.

Good location, good architecture, bad moments, bad staff and bad breakfast.

This place oozes class - it's not flashy or hip - just old fashioned glamour and deep quality. If you need a break, this is the place to come. Breakfast is a gorgeous and the view is fabulous. You could sit there all day and just watch the boats. It's part of old Istanbul - sadly, quickly fading.

Room Tip: Any that face the sea - they are sumptuously large :)

The building and public spaces have a great historic charm and this hotel could be the perfect setting for a movie. Some rooms are renovated and some are not. It is difficult to find one where everything works: hot water, internet, view, etc... some rooms are decent sizes and suitable for families and others are barely enough for one traveler. They have a great swimming pool in the summer.
The staff is friendly and a few speak English, they mean well but I am not sure that they are given the tools or directions to do the job. Full disclosure I stayed there for a couple of months while on the island. Could easily be a great hotel with few improvements.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Splendid Palace Hotel…. A magnificent building with silvery domes and red shutters, facing the Marmara one side and the city of Istanbul on the other… a hotel in historical symbiosis with nature, retaining the nostalgic ecstasy of the past in Büyükada,s unique, peaceful and relaxing island atmosphere far removed from the stress creating nature of the city. In Büyükada as well as the other Princes Islands, horse drawn carriages are still the only means of public transportation.. Splendid Palace Hotel was inaugurated in 1908. Though inspired to some extent by ‘Art Nouveau’ the hotel clearly displays an east /west synthesis in architectural design with its bright inner couryard encircled with rooms, and the pillars on floors around the couryard. There are 70 rooms and 4 suites to accommodate 134 guests. Central heating is available for most rooms, and all are equipped with shower toilet and telephone. A restaurant, seating 90 people indoors and outdoors, offers to guests select dishes of Turkish as well as global cuisine. The swimming pool in a verdant surrounding of tress is the outcome of a building design which is in harmony wich nature. The Splendid Palace Hotel is one of Turkiye's few hotels which have been assigned special status by the Tourism Ministry , due to its being an unforgetable historical and cultural heritage… ... more   less
