4th - 9th June. Maybe unlucky but seemed like we'd arrived in August. Far too many guests for the Hotel to cater for. Mainly in the buffet restaurant. Breakfast, one grill chef to cope with potentially 600 guests cooking eggs and omelets on a order per person basis. You can imagine the queue enough to put you off egg's. The hot breakfast very limited to say the least. Dinner and evening meal not for the faint hearted. It seemed like people hadn't eaten for days. A battle again! More queue's with one chef on grilled fish, and another on meat. One thing I couldn't work out was the fryed chips (top of most people's list for a side to your main course) where bang in the middle of both queues, one tray only I must add. Overall quality of food poor. Chewy meat, and tasteless fish. Staff in general miserable, but probably due to being very few of them, and overworked. Pool area. No cleaning during the busy day. Overflowing bins. Tables full of plastic glasses, and bottles. Indoor pool changing room and toilets deep in water. Likewise the drains around the pool, overflowing. I think that's enough to think twice of booking here unless it's for January maybe!

Very good and nice hotel. Quite rooms with decent space. Good for families. Very cools and large beach next to the hotel.
Some advice:
-Ask for a room with a balcony toward the pool on right hand side from reception. Sun shine whole day
-Lots of food for breakfast, no need to eat next but until 2-3PM
!Remeber siesta time, normally between 2-4PM, but in some places already from 1:30PM to 5PM
-Gym is for free, but it is pretty bad and badly arconditioned
-Spa is for adults only
-Very warm inside pool and jacuzzi, but jacuzzi is adults only
-Staff’s English is note very good, study some basic Spanish
-Relaxed mini golf, free with 10€ deposit
-Rooms are clear and fresh every day
-Lots of grass space for picnic / walking / outside activities next to hotel
-Large outside pool area with two kids slide
-Jacuzzi over 12y
-Lots of weekly activities presented on the wall next to the computer area at the lobby
-Football field, gated but often open after 5PM, 18 min walk, Av Reina Sofía, 15, 11520 Rota, Cádiz, Spain
-Good shop (Mercadona) for food and drinking in 12 in walk
-Good Monaditos (warm sandwiches) place in Calle Peña del Águila, 14 min walk
-Internet is not free, 6€/day...30€/week and it works for one device at the time only. You need to logout from it before another device can use it. Yet, it works fine.
-I visited here end of March-15 and outside I used to find free parking slots every day, yet in March there were very few people

Places to see:
-Rota: Gupsy Market every Wednesday morning in Rota: Calle Peña del Águila
Andalusia, next to military gate. Socks, shoes and undershorts with little money
-Jerez F1 circuit, activites normally from Thu-Sun
-El Puerto de Santa María: Famous bull ring: Av del Ejército, 5511500 El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, Spain
-Puerto’s beaches are one of the best in Spain
-Cadiz: Old town
-Cadiz: Shopping mall, El Corte Inglés Bahía de Cádiz Av. las Cortes de Cádiz, 1
11012
-Arcos de la Frontera: a very nice small town, 1h drive from the hotel
-Ronda: nice town and spectacular view and canyon across the city, about 2,5h thru mountain road: Puente Nuevo
Calle Armiñán, 2, 29400 Ronda, Málaga, Spain
!Remember to drive thru El Bosque and Grazalema. Mountain roads are a bit scary, good condition but narrow
-Zahara: While visiting Ronda, visit Zahara, amazingly nice lake view from mountain. This will add about 1h time to your trip from hotel to Ronda.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony toward the pool on right hand side from reception. Sun shine whole day

We stayed in n
October half term and were very pleased with our stay - our room was large with beautiful sink area and bathroom. Our large balcony overlooked the golf course and sea - what more could you ask for. The food was varied and very tasty. We were very pleased to see a selection of Spanish dishes and the grill was fab as you watched your meat' fish' crepes ' omelette .... being cooked fresh on demand. Pool area was great - quiet in oct u til Halloween - and what an effort the staff made with entertainment and fancy dress for 3 days. The beach was a stones thros through hotel gate and again a fantasti c place to walk' sunbathe' swim. We would definitely go back .
Disappointed not to have free WiFi but bought a deal so survived.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view or if you want easy access o pool ask for ground floor by pool.

Playaballena Spa Hotel is a comfortable hotel for a family vacation, presenting a lot of facilities for adults and for kids as well. The Atlantic Ocean is almost in front of the hotel, but there is also a nice outdoor pool in the hotel, extremely attractive for everybody. Very nice both indoor and outdoor design, good service, a big variety of dishes in the restaurant. Very picturesque towns (Cadiz, Arcos and Jerez da la Frontera etc.) are nearby. The parking is a problem - the parking places are limited and at an additional charge.

What an experience!
Lovely pool for kids and very kind and skilled lifeguard who has to deal with a bunch of people shouting, eating and drinking everywhere and anything edible!.
You can enjoy cava for breakfast. All the rest....A horrible experience in a 2 stars hotel NOT 4!
The food, horrible, tasteless and the cheapest quality possible. Everyday you have the same choice of food for: breakfast, lunch and dinner ...eggs, omelette and not nice fresh looking salads. There is a fish, meat grill choice...you will chew for days (i gave up).
Dirty toilets and communal areas, I think this is also the responsibility of the kind of people visiting this place. In the night there is shouting everywhere from room to room, we were wondering how many people were staying in each rooms. It is not good value for money and their 4 stars should be reviewed.
