Finding a lunch table for four when record sunshine and temperatures rapidly
help fill Broadstairs to capacity is not to be recommended.
Just as despair and gloom was about to descend, The Charles Dickens came to our rescue - and in style.
Window seat ? - no problem Sir. refreshing wines and cordials whilst we made our choice from the comprehensive menu lifted our spirits even further.
Oh and our choice was wide - very wide - ploughman's (enough to feed two men of the field) and the best fish and chips I have ever tasted matched in quality only by the assorted Sea Platter and Fresh Salmon selected by our ladies.

Spotlessly clean, bright and sunny (as mentioned) with vista windows facing Viking Bay.
Our guests for the day were impressed and so were we.

We were so disappointed with our experience of this restaurant. In my opinion, it is one of the worst experiences of restaurant service I have had.
We found the food to be excellent so we feel sorry for the chefs working so hard to cook good food to then be served in an awful atmosphere.
We booked the table for 8.15 pm - there were two large groups either side of us, and many couples and smaller groups too.
The large groups were completely out of control and had had far, far too much to drink. The managemet did nothing to stop them or calm their behaviour all evening. Some of the most ludicrous behaviour (given that this is a restaurant where a main course costs £17 a head) included constant shouting, swearing, standing on furniture, singing football songs, banging tables, jeering, throwing things, more swearing, shouting at each other, taking shirts off, being topless. The restaurant management did nothing to stop the behaviour. I was in fact told "that's the way it is here" which I find inexcusable.
We had to ask five times for our drinks order, three times to order food, the food took an hour to arrive, we asked three times for the bill which no one gave to us. We got up to leave in the end and one of the management thanked us for coming - we'd asked her for the bill and she hadn't even realised we hadn't paid. We did pay, and were given a discount, but I would never return and the experience ruined what could have been a nice evening. There are so many great places to eat in Broadstairs with good food, good surroundings and good service there is no reason to eat somewhere with such low standards.

We were part of a large party on a Sunday for lunch. We fortunately booked in advance. Firstly, a delightful view, if you book a window seat upstairs. Great waitresses..they were run off their feet and still did their job with a smile. We were disappointed that they wasted their breath asking us how we would like our meat cooked..as the chef couldn't care less. I love mine undercooked, but two of our group had medical reasons for needing their meat well done (same for veg too) - well, the chef undercooked the meat and the veg is steamed... so if you like it that way, enjoy yourselves! I think it was over priced for what it was, and even if it had been perfect I would of said over £10 for a roast dinner is very pricey. My partner felt I'll when we got home- but, that could of been from the trip to burger king he made immediately after his unfulfilling lunch at this pub. The only other complaint is not that of the staff but to the management.... You are not running a creche. Children should be allowed in pubs and although you are not responsible for the way some parents look after their Children...you can ask or even insist that children are seated at the table with their parents. If we wanted to watch children run about above us, we would of gone to a ball pond..I would of said a ball pond at McDonald's, but I wouldn't go in one their cafes unless it was to pick up coffee!
