Description: Nestled into the Avon Valley, Award Winning restaurant The Oyster Shack – aka “Seafood Paradise” serves an array of mouth-watering catch of the day seafood and shellfish, depending on what’s been landed daily and what’s in season on the land. With eclectic, rustic decor its as cosy in the wintertime as it is virbrant and al fresco in the summer. A must visit year round. In true "shack" nature you can pop in for light nibbles and coffee with friends at lunchtime through to an extravagant Lobster lunch or whole catch of the day - always with incredibly friendly and welcoming service.

We had lunch with family yesterday. I loved this restaurant. The worst bit was nosing down the lane to get to it (it’s well signed so you know it is actually there....or it would be easy to lose faith). Once the lane was negotiated I thought it was pretty much perfect. Perfectly fresh fish (counted down on the board), perfect selection of wines, well priced and in carafes too which was good, perfect sides, pudding (Spanish rice pudding, delicious!) and extraordinarily nice service. Hard to beat really! And they sell great cheese on the way out. Highly recommend, probably even better on a sunny day in the summer but we had a great lunch even on a soggy February Saturday.

The Oyster Shack is now under new ownership but the same brilliant standards pertain .
This is a hidden gem, in beautiful South Devon.
The food was excellent, the service was professional, helpful and friendly.
We both had the same excellent starter of crispy shrimps and then mypartner had sole and I had Hake, both cooked to perfection and beautifully presented.
The ambiance on a cold early February night was warm and cosy.
Another great experience at the ‘Shack’

The Oyster Shack is an unpretentious fish restaurant in the middle of nowhere, which started with Oysters and since expanded to locally sourced fish and shellfish, but oysters still feature strongly.
In the winter only open for lunch Wednesday to Friday and for dinner as well at the weekend. We didn't book and we're surprised to see how busy the place was - a good sign. On a one and only holiday visit we had to have oysters - a choice of 6 different seasonings - and the warm sharing dish. We staggered out of the restaurant after a pint of chilli prawns, three different (large) fish fillets in a tomato bisque, crevette, crab and mussels in a garlic white wine broth, mopped up with bread. A slow messy meal but we loved it.
Service was prompt, very pleasant and very helpful and the place is quirky, from the wall decorations to the children's plastic buckets for rubbish/to hold hand towels/wine etc. If we lived locally we would become regulars - the fish of the day looked great - John Dory or plaice, and there were some interesting starters to try as well. Sweets looked pretty standard, but who has room?? The wine list was reasonable but it's the sea food people go for. Our sharing dish was expensive - £27.50 each, but other dishes were cheaper and it's all on the web site.
It was adults only when we were there and not sure how suitable the place is for children.

Last visit 5 years ago and decidedto try again. My glass of prosecco was flat and warm, but changed when I complained. The plaice we both had was very nice but too expensive bearing in mind you must then add two sides at 3.50 each. Nasty cheap serviettes dont help and red wine served in a glass that had been dishwashed so many times it looked dirty. Staff 1st class, but then no coffee at the end, the fish might be fresh but we live in Devon where we expect fresh fish. You may price yourself out of the market.
