My husband and I have just returned from our first holiday on the Greek Islands. The Hotel Solemar in Ixia.
On arrival at the hotel we were given the key to our room and we made our way up to the first floor. On going into the room the first thing that hit us was the heat so we rushed down to reception to purchase the remote control for the air con. Once that was sorted we looked around the room. Very compact but room enough for two. The bathroom was okay but the shower was very, very small and at times the drain in the middle of the bathroom was needed.
The pool area was fine and there were plenty of sunbeds available but as it wasOctober the hotel was not full. The lady who runs the pool bar was very kind and friendly. We only ate at the pool bar once so can't really comment on the food there.
The hotel bar was very clean and very well run.We went there every night after having a walk. There was a happy hour every night but this only applied to cocktails and long drinks. Two for 5 euros. Gabrielle the bar-man was very friendly and had time to chat to all the guests but as mentioned before it was October so he was not exactly run off his feet.
Now THE FOOD. It was DIABOLICAL!!!!!! We were staying on a half board basis and may as well have been self catering. There was not really anything that looked appetising at all. Thank goodness for bread rolls.
Ixia is a nice place.Pleanty of bars and places to eat. The beach is not so great but if you have a pool at your hotel then thats not to much of a problem.
As I said this was our first visit to any of the Greek Islands and I'm sure it won't be our last but Ixia and the Hotel Solemar won't be on the list of our places to visit in the near future..

We are a party of four who recently stayed at the Hotel Solemar in Ixia.As we had read some "Iffy" reviews about the hotel, we were prepared maybe for some dissapointment. However, on arrival we were treated curtiously and our rooms were extremely nice. Although the balconies are small, they are adequate. We found all the staff most friendly and helpful, the maids were always smiling and did a wonderful job - even to arranging nighties prettily on the bed ! The dining room staff and the barman and reception were all very good. The food was plentiful with lots of choice. We had read in some reviews about water coming over the top of the shower tray, but they are wet rooms with a drain in the floor and so designed for this. We understand the hotel has been re furbished so can only quote on our experience. We hired a car for two days - - £30 per day all in and explored the island. We also visited Symi by boat, a beautiful island well worth seeing. We went to Rhodes town several times, it was 7 euros by taxi (all taxi fares are pre set so you dont get ripped off) It cost more than that by bus for four of us. The old part of town is so very interesting with people living in between the ruins! The main town is bustling with bazzars and eating places where the waiters are trying to tempt you in as you pass ! The only downside was a cockerall that lived nearby used to start crowing at about 6am and that would set off about 25 parrots which were in a cage in the field next to the hotel ! If you like football/sport, you wont be dissapointed, every bar has more than one screen showing Sky ! Not much of a beach but the sea is the most beautiful blue and the sunset wonderful. We had a really good holiday and only one mozzy bite bween the four of us !!!

Just returned from Ixia and the solemar apartments. Arived at 4am on a sunday morning the night manager/porter was very unhelpful when we asked if we could buy some water he simply replyed 'the bar is closed' .
We did however find a little 24hr shop down the road across from all the restraunts which was a god send.
The apartment was basic with all the usual toaster two ring cooker etc .The shower was as others have said just a hand held unit but worked well enough.
The towels were changed every day and the sheet's every other the maid was very helpful and freindly and cleaned the room's every day. We did not eat at the hotel at all so can not comment on this .We did however eat at ALEXANDROS on the main road the food and staff are brilliant all the staff make you feel very special Mike espcially.
All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would return to the solimar it makes a good base to explore the lovely island that is Rhodes

Having just arrived home from my 4th vacation to Rhodes, I feel compelled to let other tourists know about the above hotel.
In my opinion it should be avoided at all costs............
The only thing that made the holiday bearable was the great weather.
We arrived at 4 am and had to find our own room, as the night porter couldn't be bothered to bring us.
This was no fun when you consider the fact that we had 2 children with us (one year old and 4 year old)

When we went to the pool the next day, it was FILTHY!
Not to mention tha fact that it goes from one metre to 4 metres in 3 feet.
Then there was no bath ....and the shower didn't hang on the wall. Each time one of us had a shower the bathroom flooded.
To add insult to injury, the electricitty went off almost every night. When we went to the manager to see why, as the children were frightened and upset ( at 11pm), we were told to just sit in the foyer.
All in all, a bad hotel and a bad experience

This hotel was ok, but did have a number of problems

Firstly, the room we stayed in was a standard hotel room, tv, bed, balcony etc.

However, the toilet left a little to be desired. The bath shower drained under the floor, and the drainage pipe had a vent in the centre of the floor, probably for evacuating water from the floor, hower, on using the shower, the drain in the centre of the floor vented out onto the floor. We had to use the shower while keeping the plug in the bath, and then slowly manually draining the water away to avoid the floor flooding.

Pool was ok, however, was full to the brim with dead bugs on one day after a heavy rain storm. Was ok on other days, however, the pool area was infested with ants.

Restaurant: food was ok, I preferred the buffet breakfast, most nights the dinners were pretty simple. My partner endured three days of food poisoning, although we were never sure if this was caused in the restaurant or not, although one other guest we chatted to did also say that he had been unwell.

Unfortunately, october is a pretty dicey time to visit this area of rhodes. Humidity is high, and there is also rain, bringing out mosquitoes and various other winged pests, although I cant very well complain about nature, but beware if like me you are one of those people who attract mosquitoes, you will end up bitten raw.

All in all, the hotel was ok, it is three star, and that is what you get. We were not overly disappointed, and did love all the little stray kittens kicking about the pool. So cat haters beware.

Karaokie was once or twice a week (I cant strictly remember) and if like me you hate karaokie, then beware, you will be shamed into getting up. I was, so I purposefully chose the longest song I could think of, American Pie by Don McLean. The full version. Heh!.

Dont be put off if you want a cheap holiday, but if you are looking for luxury and pampering, then look elsewhere.
