This is the type of hotel we really appreciate. A one night stopover during a short tour of the Pyrenees- We wished that we had stayed longer. The owners had that rare quality of charm and old fashioned courtesy.
The Hotel looks a little tired, but it is welcoming. The bedroom (and associated plumbing) was fine.
The Dinner menu was a little restricted, but was of first class quality . A bottle of Brouilly (to go with the duck) was excellent , and at-15Euros a real bargain.
During dinner we were fortunate to hear the son of the owner playing the piano. He is undoubtable a very gifted musician.
I note from an earlier review, that the hotel may close soon. That would be a pity, as we wish to return.

If you want to feel the old flavor of the Ossau Valley, when it was very popular among the high class during the 19th and early 20th Centuries, you have to stay there. Yes, it is old and it looks obsolete in many ways but it's authentic, charming and sweet. You will be welcome with a true smile and kind eyes. You won't have a magnetic card for your room but a long key that opens a real lock on a tall wooden door. You will open it to enter a high ceiling, renovated and clean room that still has some vintage furniture. You can dine in the hotel, in a restaurant that serves authentic home made dishes in a old dining room that you can attend after having a drink at the bar just across the lobby. You'll NEVER get this kind of service and accomodations for that range of prices anywhere.
You understand it, I just loved my three nights there. The smell of old furniture in the corridors, the nicely-sized rooms, the view on the mountains, the high-ceilings, the renovated rooms that still feel old. Drinking a glass of Jurançon wine in the bar after a mountain hike and before going to dinner just acoss the lobby and served by authentic people who see you as human beings and not just credit cards.
Oh yes, a lot of things could be better if you're a spoiled brat begging to be treated as a superstar but if it's the authenticity and the flavor of the traditional Ossau Valley history that you're looking for, there's where you need to stay. And be quick, such a treasure isn't going to last long in this crazy era!

Room Tip: Ask for a upper level room with view on the village and the mountains, just to open your window in the morning and enjoy the moment.

They can't hide that it is an older hotel, but it is like it has to be, everything is clean, de food is good, the owners are very friendly and are doing a good job and it is located in the center of the mountains
