“Fantastic Introduction to Costa Rica”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2012

If you are looking for an easy way to experience Costa Rica with all the comforts of home and more, this is your resort. My husband and I were mesmerized by the beauty of the grounds and the weather in Feb is pure perfection with a lot of warmth and no humidity. We are from the East Coast so this in and of itself is a vacation. The food is exactly what you would expect from a Four Seasons, expensive but worth every penny and every bite. If the Brazilian restaurant is open during your stay, eat there! Phenomenal... Also the staff at Tico's make's really fun and tasty drinks. We loved one so much they taught me how to make it. We were really pleased and surprised by the easy access to the Beach Club. So on the days we didn't rent a car to drive to Tamarindo to learn how to surf, we spent some quiet time lounging at the club. The Beach Club proved to be a more relaxing beach and pool area for us to get away from all the kids & commotion at the main resort area. you do rent a car, definitely check out Playa Grande (nesting ground for leatherback turtles & amazing beach) and Playa Avellanas (there is an "on the beach" restaurant there called Lola's...it's a must do). These spots are worth the very easy to navigate drive. I highly recommend leaving the resort to get a feel for the area, at the end of the day, it is really nice to come home to the Four Seasons but its also nice to really experience the area.
The spa at the resort is also really worth a trip as well, and the hot and cold pools they have prior to treatments are really a nice touch. I can see why this spa has won many awards.
The rooms were spacious and we really enjoyed ordering room service and eating in the privacy of our own balcony.

Everything was just wonderful during our stay. The hotel offers complimentary tour of their golf course and on water via kayaking, snorkeling, or surfing. The employee tour guides are knowledgeable, friendly and very happy to accommodate your every need. You can also set up (through the Concierge) tours outside of the property that are well researched by the hotel staff and are safe. You really don't need to leave this property to enjoy most of what Costa Rica has to offer. The food was also extremely good and they hosted a traditional Costa Rican food night about twice a week. My family had a wonderful and memorably time while staying at the Four Seasons in Papagayo,

Room Tip: All rooms are large with an extra screened in balcony. This adds even more rome to roam.

Fabulous resort, wonderful service, great food, lovely accommodations - just a perfect vacation spot! A great place to relax and enjoy the weather, food and coffee of Costa Rica! My 8 year old son loved the teen center (supposed to be 12+, but they were flexible), pools, miniature golfing and beaches on property. My husband and I enjoyed every second of our trip, including our excursions to the zip-lining (20 minutes away) and the rain forest (2.5 hours away).

If you have Amex Platinum, you can get the buffet breakfast for free ($100/day) and a room upgrade and a spa credit. Totally worth the price to upgrade your credit card!

Though quite remote from most of Costa Rica's attractions - such as Arenal and Manuel Antonio - this is a perfect place to get away from it all even if just for a long weekend. 4.5 hour flight from NY on Jet Blue to Liberia, which is only 25 minutes from the hotel. The beaches are lovely, and it's fun to see monkeys and all the other wildlife. The hotel design is gorgeous -- my 8 y.o. even commented on the cool bamboo ceilings in the public areas. We also loved the remote-controlled screens on our very large terrace -- this makes it a screened-in porch for extra living area.

The kids couldn't believe their luck our first night with the movie/dinner at the pool night for kids; lifeguards were in the pool with the kids, and they could even eat their dinner on the floating loungers. We were able to relax within sight just a few steps away with our own dinner and pitcher of sangria -- it was win-win for the whole family.

The game room was also appreciated; it is set up in a ballroom. Afternoon ping-pong tournaments were a perfect way for the family to get a break from the sun.

We combined our time here with stays in Manuel Antonio and the Poas Volcano area, which gave us a good taste of the different regions of beautiful Costa Rica. But with the ease of travel to/from Liberia and the luxury of the FS, we will definitely be back even if just for a short visit. And with the service level we experienced in all the areas of Costa Rica we visited, the Caribbean islands will no longer be on our get-away list.
