Hopkins Inn was a decent place to stay in a dirty little village that does not have much going for it. I booked this place after I read all these raving reviews about what a gem Hopkins is .... and now I would suggest that you do not believe the hype! This B&B was located on the beach but the water is murky and there is always garbage washing up though the owners do try to keep it clean. The cabanas are cute and tiny with hard beds, little fridge, coffee maker, table chairs and private bathroom. It was clean and decent for where it is but maybe a bit over priced. The breakfast is sweet breads, fruits and juices which were good but too much sugar for my taste. When we arrived the lady owner Rita was very welcoming and was helpful during our stay but the male owner Greg was very reserved and somewhat odd. He was friendly with other guests and drive them around town, etc but we felt uncomfortable as he barely said anything more than hello. Not sure if we did something to offend but that was a downside to our visit. The maid was very nice and friendly and the dog was very cute and well behaved. Personally I would not recommend Hopkins Village or visit again but if you decide to go, Hopkins Inn is a decent centrally located place to hang out.

Room Tip: Pick a cabana close to the beach

We spent our last 2 nights in Belize at the Hopkins Inn right in the heart of the little town of Hopkins Village, Belize. WOW - you can ask for nothing more! We had a cute little cabana with a private bathroom - so cute and very clean! The view from our room and the little porch was of the beach and we went to sleep each night listening to the waves. So peaceful. When we woke up each morning Rita brought over a wonderful breakfast to us of fresh fruit, yummy breads, eggs and fresh squeezed juice. I don't think we'll ever stay anyplace else now that we've found this little gem!

Room Tip: All of the cabanas are in a great location!

Great spot on the water. Nice, roomy cabana with a mini fridge, coffee maker and a breakfast of fresh fruit, juice and bread and pastries served every morning to your vernanda. It's a great way to start the day. It doesn't get much better than this. If what you are looking for is a quiet, well run out of the way place made particularly enjoyable by a couple of vey nice hosts, Greg and Rita, this is the place. The village of Hopkins is like a step back in time. The locals live a humble existence and are friendly and welcoming . Electicity didn't come there until about 10 years ago. There is a nice little beach bar a short walk up the beach at the Windschief which has internet access, and serves food "when people start coming around" which is usually later on in the afternoon, and serves whatever they have fresh that day.

Greg and Rita are great. It was easy to book with them via email and the accommodations were comfortable. I loved that we were right on the beach. My only slightly negative (and, I don't hold this against them at all) is that I wish they had wi-fi access. But to be honest, Hopkins was the most difficult place for us to stay connected. That probably gives the place a bit of a natural experience. We really didn't mind too much.

The prices were really reasonable. Rita even booked us a flight on Tropic Air (they are agents). I would stay here again.

Room Tip: I think all their cabanas offer a view of the water, but just in case you might want to request it.

If you are the type of traveler who longs for a more authentic experience than you are going to get in the more highly developed tourist areas of Belize Hopkins Inn may be ideal for you.
We almost didn't schedule a stop here as part of our 16 day Belize sampler. I am glad we did.
The Garifuna people who make up many of the residents of Hopkins gave the village a unique favor. We enjoyed seeing their beautiful bright looking children dressed impecably in school uniforms, and smiling back at the friendly faces of villagers who greeted us with a touch of formality on the street and in the restaurants.
We were happy to sit out by the water's edge and watch life unfold.
One day we noticed a large gathering of magnificent frigate birds and herring gulls flying low just up the beach. We walked over to see that local fishermen had brought in a most abundant catch of fish.
I can't add any more to what has already been said about our gracious hosts, Rita and Greg. As for the cabanas, while we enjoyed one just steps from the beach the friends were traveling with were just as happy in perhaps a slightly smaller unit that set a bit further back fromthe water.
I would love to come back next year, stay a week, and walk the road along the Sittee River again and look for more orioles and volacious trogons.
