“Modernised apartment in an older complex”
Reviewed 23 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

Having just read the review “Disappointing and frustrating” we wondered if we had stayed at the same apartment. We stayed for two weeks from 3rd November and like the previous reviewer, we were on a fact finding trip. As such, we were out and about most of the time, so any noise from the renovations next door was not a worry. Yes we were disturbed by a motorcycle one night, but this can hardly be blamed on the owner of the property.

Penang, and George Town in particular, is renowned for its range and quality of food. Eating out is a pleasure and extremely cheap. All of the ex pats we met on this trip said that they rarely ate at home and we did likewise. When we did eat in, we found that the facilities were adequate.

We used the washing machine several times during our stay, but not the dryer. We prefer natural drying and we found that we could manage quite happily with the small airer available, but a larger one would have been better.

It tends to rain most afternoons in Penang, but we had no problems with any leaks.

We agree that the complex is old and could do with sprucing up. However, the apartment we had was in an excellent condition with lovely views of the sea from the balcony. We often sat there at night enjoying the view whilst having a pre dinner drink. We slept in the “front bedroom” and whilst the bed was firm, it was comfortable – particularly so after the bed we had at the previous apartment we rented the week before in George Town.

All in all, we had an enjoyable stay and we must say that Jason and Jasmine were excellent hosts.

“Disappointing and frustrating”

Having read all the great reviews prior to booking we had high expectations and our reality was that our expectations were not met.

The owners are very nice and the booking was easy enough. There was an offer to collect us at the airport (nice touch) but we had a hire car.

We stayed for a month in September/October during a fact finding trip to Penang. The apartment itself is spotlessly clean, but poorly equipped for a long stay. One pan, one chopping knife, three odd glasses. Plenty of towels, which was a good thing as we had to mop up severe flooding from rain ingress at the lounge window. Housekeeping weekly with towel and bedlinen changes. There is a washer/dryer, but for our entire stay the dryer was out of order, making clothes wetter than after a spin dry. Despite four visits from the technician during our stay it was still broken. All we had to dry clothes was a hanging rail with coat hanger, after we requested this from the owners. The apartment complex is really run down and badly maintained, though the security gate staff were really friendly and helpful.

The sleep quality was appalling. The bed was too hard for me but ok for my husband. The noise from road traffic below was horrendous, especially when the motorbikes with illegal exhausts were racing up and down in the wee small hours. We tried the bedroom at the back, but were disturbed by stairwell doors and what sounded like people
dragging furniture at 1am.

During the day, there are serious renovations going on at the old Hydro hotel, now owned by Doubletree Hilton. Drilling, angle grinders, welding.

The bathroom windows need at least some film on the windows to obscure people being able to see inside, especially as the workers at the aforementioned hotel had a birds eye view!

In summary, maybe some of these things could have been overlooked if our stay was for two or three nights, but we left exhausted.

Management Response
10 Nov 2015
Thank you for taking time to write us a review.

We are truly sorry we disappoint you. Unfortunately the upgrading works by DoubleTree Hilton next door disturbed your stay. We wish you had let us know during your stay and we would have refunded your booking and help you find an alternative apartment.

We will definitely look into improving the crockery set, window filming, and get the dryer fixed.

Again, sorry for not meeting your expectation. And thank you for the honest feedback to help us improve.

“Another Great Stay”

Second stay at Jasmine Holiday Home was just as good as the first one.
The view is second to none & the apartment is so clean & comfortable.
Better than photos suggest.
Plenty of linen & crockery supplied.
The Hydro Hotel ( changed name now ) next door is currently undergoing refurbishment , the noise from this was not too disturbing & only during the day ,no noise at all at night
Once again , Jason picked us up from the airport , much appreciated.
Jasmine & Jason are a very welcoming & helpful couple.
I will be staying here again on my next visit to Penang.
Highly reccommend.
Thanks Jason & Jasmine.

“Lovely apartment in a fantastic location”

This was a perfect location to see the whole island and the apartment was nice and roomy for our family of four. The apartment complex is secure and felt very safe. We stayed for 6 days and our children (aged 4 & 6) loved the afternoon swims in the pool located within the complex.

The view from the apartment was beautiful, overlooks Miami Beach and it was fun watching the monkey's jumping through the trees below in the afternoons. There is a bus stop just 3 minutes walk down the road which made it quickly and easily venture out although for three of our days we used the services of Ocean Jupiter Tours who picked us up from the guard house and took us to see the entire island, the sights and to try the great food.

The Miami beach cafe (down the stairs from the bus stop) is a must do for some great Indian food, and to watch the sun go down. In our opinion Miami beach is far nicer than the Batu Ferringhi beach which is a quick 10 minute bus trip away.

Jason was amazing!! He picked us up from the airport at around 8pm and took us to the apartment for a lesson on the bits & bobs. We had a great time staying here and will be contacting Jason & Jasmin for our next visit. :):)

“Great accommodation central to both George Town & Batu Feringhi”

Two couples and we stayed a Jasmine Holiday Home for 10 days and there was plenty of room for four adults. Apartment was very clean and tidy with queen beds in both bedrooms and the view from the balcony was beautiful. We were collected from the airport by Jason. The apartment has easy access to the local buses so you can get to anywhere you want to go. Hop on hop off bus stop is just at the bottom of the hill. I would highly recommend this place and will certainly stay there again.
