“Comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

My wife and I have been coming to Penang for over 15 years and this was our first stay at Park Royal. I have fond memories of our other hotel but have to say that this was a happy experience in that being older persons it was good to be able to walk straight out into the night markets and wander about. The hotel staff were very good and a relaxed and comfortable feeling in the place made you feel welcome. The room on the 2nd floor, with balcony, was spacious and very suitable for the pre dinner relaxation. The breakfast provided was excellent with a great choice. I did think that the food and beverage prices within the hotel were somewhat high. I would be happy to return.

Room Tip: Sea facing too hot in the afternoon. Ours was side facing and good.

We had previously stayed in some of the other Hotels and this was our first time in the Park Royal . We found it very pleasant and peaceful. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room, deluxe seaview, 2nd floor, was large and had all facilities one would require plus a large balcony. Unfortunately it was often too hot to sit there for long. There was a walk in shower, hoorah. The general areas and pools and beautiful gardens, were well laid out and they, as well as the rooms were well maintained. Hotel cars and taxis were very reasonable, less than $A 50 for 3 hours and well worth it. Outside taxis are even cheaper.
Night markets are all along the road and plenty of places to eat.(Middle Eastern Restaurants were far too many), If you want the shopping plazas you need to travel further, eg Gurney Plaza and the Comtar area, but a visit to the countryside and historic Georgetown are well worth while.
Our disappointments were that; 1) our floor (and I thought the hotel) were non smoking but there was a distinct smoke smell in our passage.
2) The restaurant favoured some guests by holding tables for them at breakfast. One morning we had been allocated one of these by accident and the guest, when seated behind us, had the waiter, the supervisor and a chef to his table to complain. Just what gave him this right, is he better than us? Had he said anything to us there would have been an "incident". The supervisor did have the decency to apologise to us but next morning the tables were being reserved again. It is also annoying that guests, usually European, are allowed to reserve lounges in the garden and then not use them for half of the time.

Room Tip: Seaview because of the view.

Parkroyal Hotel in Batu Ferringhi, Penang, Malaysia, is situated approximately 1 hour drive from Penang International Airport. The hotel is mainly divided into 3 places; the hotel rooms, the pool, and the beach. My stay was for business trip, yet the hotel gave me relaxing moments so I can enjoy the meeting.
I stayed in Floor 4 and I reckoned that there were at least 30 non smoking rooms in each floor. The room was big enough for me, although not too many TV channels available to choose. This may push people to stay outside more :) The bathroom was only for shower.
If you stayed in the hotel, you may get 40% discount for the all you can eat buffet. And it paid off because there were plenty of food to choose in the restaurant. My recommendations were stuffed crab, grilled rib steak, baked fish, and the laksa.
For going to Georgetown or point of interest to visit, you may choose taking taxi (meter taxi is parked in the hotel yard), from freelance travel agent (usually advised by the bell boy), or hotel's travel agent. The most expensive fare came from the hotel's agent. Using free lance travel agent, I spent 30RM/hour. Although it looked like a bit expensive, then you don't need to get difficulties for returning to the hotel.
In front of the hotel, there were some small convenient stores where you can buy snacks, drinks, toothbrush, etc.
The beach itself is not as great as beaches in Indonesia. The water was a bit dirty, perhaps due to the monsoon season. Most of the guests were old couples, honeymooners, and family.

I travelled to Penang and stayed at the Park Royal with my husband in January 2012. We booked quite last minute, and got a great deal on a deluxe sea facing room. The rooms are large and comfortable but do feel a bit dated. The balcony is nice and has a good view over the pool to the sea however it was often too humid to sit out there. The buffet breakfast is outstanding, and there is lots of different choice for everyone. The pools are great, and quite relaxing to sit out next to the pool with a cocktail. We had a seafood buffet dinner on the beach for two which was good value, and very romantic, with a lovely sunset. The hotel has free wifi in the lobby and the room we had included free wired internet.

The night markets are directly outside the door of the hotel, and are great for browsing for souvenirs and gifts for back home. We enjoyed the hawkers market on the same road as the hotel which had great local foods, and ate there a few times.

The hotel has a shuttle which can take you out to georgetown and is approximately a 40 minute bus ride. You can also take a taxi to other sites including penang hill however this was a little pricey.

The resort is full of families and many people with young children. We expected this and therefore were not disappointed by this, however make sure you keep this in mind when booking.

Jetskiing and parasailing operators are available from the hotel and seem to be reasonable value.

Batu ferringhi beach on its own is not great for swimming, and you would be better off sticking to the pool. Make sure you capitalise on the daily happy hour with 2 for 1 cocktails!

Overall we had a very enjoyable trip, and would probably return for another visit.

Room Tip: Get a deluxe sea facing room.

It’s really nice hotel for family vacation.
Good facility, swimming pool and nice service.
Many local restaurants and massage shop are near hotel. Good price, delicious.
But location is little far away from downtown. So not easy to go and back to hotel on day time.
Anyway I really enjoyed my family vacation. I might be stay Park Royal hotel if I go Penang again.
