My wife and I stayed here between 18th -20th April 2018, a birthday gift from our eldest son.We stayed in Room 37; our room was at the rear overlooking Loch Fyne. It was a large room with table and seating .

This grande hotel, built in 1837, an example of baronial architecture is set in 60 acres and is approx 2 miles from the fishing village of Tarbert

The restaurant is large with spectacular views over the loch in a very romantic setting.
Sean, the food & beverage manager was extremely welcoming, helpful and an asset to the hotel.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay and would recommend the hotel

Room Tip: We found that our room at the rear was very quiet

Very disappointed for the amount of money we paid for a one night stay. This hotel is catering for the tourists who want to stay in a Scottish castle. Rooms very tired and in need of decorating, we had breakfast which was not good. Staff were lovely and very helpful, however I would not recommend this hotel to my friends.

Dear J123H,

Thank you for your review.

I am sorry to hear that you felt that you would not want to recommend our hotel to your friends.

The hotel will be undergoing some light renovations in the coming months to ensure that it has a much fresher look, that is in keeping with the style of the hotel.

We hope that we can welcome you back in the future so that you can see the difference once this has been completed.

Kind regards

We were here as part of a tour group, arriving after a long coach journey from Oban . The hotel is "something else", Scottish baronial and very remote. Our room was a bit old fashioned but certainly adequate and there was an efficient stand-alone shower in the newly refurbished en suite. The view over Loch Fyne was magnificent. We also enjoyed walking in the extensive grounds, with breath taking views and fine rhodedendrons.

The extensive public rooms are well appointed, not least the billiards room. The staff are friendly and helpful. For example we were most grateful when the manager went out of his way to find us a Scrabble set. The meals (breakfast and dinner) were good and the menus imaginative.

The hotel has rather a seventies feel, but an upmarket one. It is part of a select chain and run professionally. But, as I've said, it is seriously remote. There is Wi-Fi but there's no mobile phone signal and newspaper delivery seemed difficult.

Remember, you are staying in a nineteenth century country house, with squeaky floor boards and occasionally noisy plumbing. But it makes up for this in very many ways.

Good evening Anglicano,

We are thrilled to hear your wonderful comments about your enjoyable stay here at Stonefield Castle.

I am so pleased to hear that you really made use of your time here and managed to find time to explore our public areas within the hotel and extensive grounds.

We appreciate your comment regarding the phone signal, this is something that we are aware of being in such a remote area of Scotland.

As we do understand that this can be difficult for people wanting to make calls, we do offer the option for all of our guests to make complimentary calls from their room to outside lines no matter where they are phoning.

I am happy that you enjoyed the scrabble set, it was honestly our pleasure as we want to make sure that every guest has what they want during their stay.

Once again we are so pleased that you enjoyed your time here and hope that we can welcome you back in the future!

Kind regards
Karl Wood - General Manager

Whilst staying in Tarbert my partner and I discovered that we could walk around the island attached to the Stonefield Castle Hotel.
You will need your walking shoes or wellingtons as it can get a little soggy.
The staff were exceptionally friendly despite only going in for a coffee.
The hotel has dark panelling on the walls and lovely comfy chairs to sit and watch the world go by.

The restaurant overlooks the Loch and I can imagine in the evening delivers dramatic views.

I really wanted to stay in a castle hotel while on our trip to Scotland. I quickly realized that there were the really expensive ones and then there were the relatively affordable castle hotels. I settled on Stonefield, because it worked well for our itinerary and was on the less expensive side for a standard room. And I wasn't really sure what to expect. The woman who checked us in was very pleasant. The room was nice, but small and pretty basic. We were worned that the wi-fi may not work well, but had no problem. The walls were thin, but the other nearby guests were quiet. Breakfast was good and the view from the restaurant was great over the loch. The gardens are pretty wild, and we tried to walk around, but found the walled garden completely empty.
